As the sun set over the city skyline, painting everything in shades of gold and orange, I realized that this fierce, possessive, all-consuming love was exactly what I'd been afraid of and exactly what I needed.
Min-jae was right. He wasn't Jin-seok. He wasn't going to manipulate or control or stalk. But he also wasn't going to let anyone else have me without a fight.
Min-jae leaned in to kiss me again, but I placed my hands on his chest, stopping him.
"Wait," I said, and he pulled back immediately, concern flickering in his eyes.
"What's wrong?"
I took a deep breath, steeling myself for what I was about to say. "I need you to understand something. What you just did...grabbing Yuna like that, threatening her..it was hot as hell, and I meant everything I said about wanting someone possessive but —"
His brow furrowed. "But..?"
"But you also spent two days ignoring me. Two days making me think I'd lost you over something that wasn't even my choice." I kept my hands firm on his chest, maintaining the distance between us. "You made me suffer, Min-jae. You made me think our relationship was over because you were too proud or too scared to just talk to me."
The confidence in his expression faltered. "Ji-hoon, I was hurt..."
But as soon as his eyes got wet and sad, my heart twitched. I couldn't see my Minjae sad anymore. His bright face turned pale, and I felt like the worst person in the world.
"Okay, don't repeat it from now," I said quickly, unable to bear seeing him like this. "You have to talk to me first, okay?"
Min-jae's relief was immediate. "You also have to promise me the same thing." Finally, his smile returned, and I felt the world right itself again. His shirt's top button was still open from our earlier intensity, and the groove of his clavicle was inviting me to kiss that part. Somehow, I controlled my urge because I didn't want Min-jae to know how much I liked being more physical with him. Everyone has their way of showing love like mothers shows love by caring, fathers by providing happiness and the life their children want. Similarly, I showed my love by being more physical. But I didn't want this secret known to Min-jae, at least not yet.
Min-jae held my hand and said, "Okay, should we leave?"
I asked, surprised and shyly, "Where?"
Min-jae chuckled. "I mean home—you go to yours and I'll go to mine. If you want to go somewhere else, I can come with you. As long as I'm with you, I don't mind going anywhere, whether it's a hotel, motel, or sauna."
I thought to myself, "He's already done his PhD in flirting."
During our journey from school to home, we held hands and flirted with each other, eating hotteok from the same lady who had called us lovebirds. I left him at his house and came to mine. As usual, there was no sound or noise of plates clinking—just me and a hollow home filled with stale air. I went to my room and lay down, finally feeling relief. All this drama was over.
I washed myself and then ate alone, but at the same time, I was chatting with Min-jae. He was sending photos of his dog wearing cute outfits, and I was laughing while eating. When I was about to sleep, Yuna's letter caught my eye. Her advice to either read it or throw it away echoed in my mind, so I decided to read it. I assured myself before reading that this letter wasn't going to change anything between Min-jae and me.
I opened her letter, assuming it would be romantic descriptions of why she liked me, how she cared for me like usual confession stuff. But when I unfolded the pink paper, what I found was completely different.
The letter wasn't romantic at all. In fact, it wasn't related to love at all. It was an explanation—an apology, and something much more sinister.
Dear Ji-hoon,
I'm writing this letter to apologize for saying "I like you" to you. It was Jin-seok who threatened me to propose to you. My father is a director at his Harlan Company, and Jin-seok threatened that if I didn't do everything he said, he would fire my father from the board of directors. Not only fire him, but he also threatened that my father would never be able to work anywhere ever again after he got fired.
Jin-seok told me to propose to you, and honestly, I don't know the reason why he's doing this to you, and I'm not interested in finding out either. I just don't want you to curse me, which is why I'm writing this letter. This letter was supposed to be a romantic teen proposal, but I can only tell you all this in this form because Jinseok's people are keeping close eyes on me.
Again, I'm saying this is not my wish to mess with your. I just can't disobey him. I'm sorry.
- Yuna
The letter slipped from my trembling hands, fluttering to the floor like a dying butterfly. My heart hammered against my ribs so hard I thought it might burst.
The room suddenly felt too small, the air too thick to breathe.
What the fuck!!!
Jin-seok. That bastard was still pulling strings, still manipulating our lives from wherever his family had hidden him. The restraining order, the expulsion, none of it had stopped him. He was like a spider, weaving webs from the shadows, and we were still caught in them.
But why? Why would he force Yuna to confess to me? What was his endgame?
My mind raced through possibilities, each one more terrifying than the last. Was this his revenge against Me for falling for min-jae? His way of trying to break us up? Or was it something deeper, more sinister—a way to isolate Min-jae from me?
I grabbed my phone with shaking hands, wanting to call Min-jae immediately, but then I stopped. How to tell him? That Jin-seok is still terrorizing innocent people to get to us? That even after everything we'd been through, we still weren't safe? That our relationship was still under attack from someone who should have been locked away?
The worst part was imagining what Min-jae would do when he found out. Today on the rooftop, I'd seen a side of him I'd never witnessed before—possessive, territorial, almost frightening in his intensity. If he learned that Jin-seok had manipulated Yuna into confessing to me, that our recent fight and pain had been orchestrated by our stalker...
I shuddered, remembering the way Min-jae had described grabbing Yuna's collar, the cold fury in his voice when he'd told me he'd claimed me as his. What would he do to Jin-seok if they ever came face to face again?
My phone buzzed, making me jump. A text from Min-jae: "Sweet dreams, Ji-hoon. Thank you for choosing me today. I love you."
The simple message, so full of warmth and affection, made my chest tight with emotion. He had no idea. He was probably lying in bed right now, finally at peace after our rooftop confrontation, thinking we'd overcome our biggest obstacle. He didn't know that Jin-seok was still out there, still playing games with our lives.
Should I tell him tonight? Should I let him sleep peacefully for one more night before destroying his sense of security again?
I stared at the letter on the floor, Yuna's careful handwriting blurring through my tears. This innocent girl had been forced to become a pawn in Jin-seok's twisted game, threatened into hurting people she didn't even know. How many other people was he manipulating? How far did his influence reach?
The house creaked around me, every sound making me flinch. Suddenly, my empty home didn't feel safe—it felt vulnerable, exposed. What if Jin-seok knew where I lived? What if he was watching me right now? The curtains were drawn, but I found myself looking over my shoulder, half-expecting to see a familiar silhouette lurking in the shadows.
I picked up the letter again, reading it more carefully this time, looking for clues. Yuna mentioned that Jin-seok's people were watching her. People, plural. So he had helpers, accomplices. This wasn't just a lone obsession anymore—it was a network, an operation. How much money was his family spending to maintain surveillance on a teenage girl just to orchestrate a fake love confession?
The implications hit me like a freight train. If Jin-seok could threaten a company director's job, if he had people watching and reporting back to him, if he could coordinate elaborate schemes from wherever he was hidden...then the restraining order was meaningless. Legal documents were just paper to someone with unlimited resources and no moral boundaries.
My phone buzzed again. Another text from Min-jae: "Are you reading something? You haven't replied to my dog photos. Is everything okay?"
Even through a screen, he could sense my distress. Or maybe he was just being his usual attentive self, noticing when I deviated from our normal patterns. Either way, his concern made me feel both loved and guilty. I was keeping secrets again, just when we'd promised to be honest with each other.
I typed back: "Just tired. Your dog photos are adorable. I'll call you tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay, but Ji-hoon? If something's bothering you, you know you can tell me anything, right?"
The irony was crushing. Here he was, offering to be my confidant, and I was hiding something that could shatter his peace of mind. But what choice did I have? Tomorrow was Saturday—we could meet somewhere private, somewhere safe, and I could tell him everything then.
"I know. I love you too, Min-jae."
"Sweet dreams, Ji-hoon."
I set the phone aside and buried my face in my pillow, but sleep felt impossible.
Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Jin-seok's face—not the broken, defeated expression he'd worn during our confrontation at school, but the cold, calculating look of someone who planned attacks from the shadows.
How long had he been planning this? The confession had happened on same day after our storage closet kiss, right when Min-jae and I were finally getting together. Had Jin-seok somehow known? Had he been watching us that closely?
The thought made me sick. Every private moment, every stolen glance, every touch had it all been observed and catalogued by Jin-seok's network of spies? The storage closet suddenly didn't feel like a sanctuary where we'd discovered our love it felt like a stage where we'd unknowingly performed for an audience of one.
I rolled over, staring at the ceiling, trying to piece together Jin-seok's psychology. He'd confessed his feelings to Min-jae, been rejected, then harassed him until Min-jae had to transfer schools. When that hadn't worked, he'd followed Min-jae here, insinuated himself into our friend group, and tried to win him over through manipulation and charm.
But when that plan had also failed, when Min-jae had chosen me instead, Jinseok's strategy had shifted. He couldn't have me directl..the restraining order and his family's need to maintain appearances prevented that. So instead, he'd decided to destroy me indirectly, to poison my relationships, to isolate me from the one person who mattered most.
The confession scheme was brilliant in its cruelty. Force the most beautiful girl in school to publicly declare her feelings for me, knowing it would create doubt and jealousy in Min-jae's mind. The timing had been perfect, right when we were most vulnerable, most uncertain about where we stood with each other.
If Yuna hadn't withdrawn her confession, if she hadn't apologized and revealed the truth, Jin-seok's plan might have worked. Min-jae and I could have spent weeks or months fighting about it, growing apart, until our relationship crumbled under the weight of manufactured drama.
but wait why yuna withdrae her confesssion..she said seok kepping eyes on him..right? then how she can easiy withdraw her confession? striange
But what scared me most was the realization that this was probably just the beginning. Jin-seok had money, connections, and apparently unlimited patience. If the Yuna gambit had failed, what would be his next move? What other innocent people would he drag into his web of manipulation?
I thought about Woo-sung, about my parents, about Min-jae's family. Were they all potential targets now? Would Jin-seok go after Min-jae's mother, threaten her job or her safety? Would he find ways to manipulate my parents into forbidding me from seeing Min-jae?
The possibilities were endless and terrifying. We weren't just dealing with a spurned teenager anymore—we were up against someone with resources and reach we could barely comprehend. Someone who could pull strings from a distance, who could turn anyone into a weapon against us.
My phone buzzed one more time. Not Min-jae this time, but an unknown number.
"Did you enjoy reading her letter?"
The blood in my veins turned to ice water. I stared at the message, my hands shaking so badly I nearly dropped the phone.
He knew. Somehow, Jin-seok knew I'd read Yuna's letter. Right now. Tonight.
Was he watching me? Was there a camera in my room? Had he hacked my phone? The sense of violation was overwhelming, the feeling of being observed and studied like a laboratory rat.
Another message appeared: "You can't protect him forever, Ji-hoon. I have all the time in the world."
And then: "Sweet dreams."
The same phrase Min-jae had used, but twisted into something sinister, mocking. My entire body was trembling now, adrenaline flooding my system like poison. I wanted to call the police, to call Min-jae, to scream until someone came to help me.But what could I tell them? That I'd received threatening texts from an unknown number? That I felt like I was being watched? Jin-seok was too smart to leave evidence, too careful to give us anything concrete to use against him.
I stumbled to my window and yanked the curtains shut, but it didn't help. The feeling of being observed persisted, crawling along my skin like insects. How long had he been watching us? How much did he know about our daily routines, our favorite places, our vulnerabilities?
As I headed for sleeping , my phone buzzed again. This time it was Minjae:
"Can't sleep either? I keep thinking about today, about us. I'm so happy, Jihoon. Finally, everything feels right."
To be continued.
