Bayley sighed, shifting in her seat. Her ass was going numb, she had been patrolling the area Sean had been seen most often for the past four hours, nothing. She’d have to get out on foot soon before she lost all the feeling in her ass. Bayley frowned as a small figure rounded the corner, “Bayley!” The chief flinched, realizing just who the figure was as it stomped closer.
“Shit,” Bayley said under her breath, contemplating turning the cruiser on and peeling off.
“Don't you dare!” the fawn-haired woman warned, pointing at Bayley’s hand reaching for the ignition.
Bayley sighed, “Fuuuuuck.”
“Open this door!” Meredith yelled, yanking on the handle of the passenger-side door. Bayley sighed, unlocking the door, and braced herself. “Why have you been ignoring my calls-”
“I haven't-”
“And texts!” Meredith growled, slamming the door.
“Can you not slam the…door?” Bayley lost steam as she turned to look at the omega. “Sorry, it's just unnecessary and-”
“Unnecessary? Unnecessary is you ignoring me for three days!” Meredith hissed.
Bayley nods, “Yeah, clearly that wasn't the best idea.” She sighed, scratching her head. “I didn't know what to do.”
“So you ignored me? That's not how this works-”
“It's what you did!” Bayley laughed.
Meredith froze. “Yeah,” she sighed, slumping back in her seat. “It is.” They sat in silence for a moment.
“At least you had a good reason,” Bayley mumbled. Meredith looked confused at the chief. Bayley chuckled, “Finding a mate as an omega is terrifying…What if they're horrible? It's not like the council or the police will do anything or could do anything. And to find out your mate is human…”
“You're different, I knew that.”
Bayley shook her head, “In high school. What if I had changed since then, and not in a good way?”
Meredith shook her head, “No.”
“But-”
“Omegas can read people, we have to to make up for what we lack in strength. If you can't fight you have to know when to run…how to outsmart the danger.” Meredith sighed. “The moment I saw you I knew…You’re safe. The more I get to know you the more you reinforce that.”
Bayley shook her head harder, “You didn't know that, what if I'm different behind closed doors?”
Meredith smiled, “I trust you.”
“You don't know me.”
“No, but I'd like to change that.”
Bayley frowned at Meredith. “How can you just trust me?”
“I don't know,” Meredith shrugged, “I don't usually do this…But you're my soulmate for a reason.”
“Chief?” Bayley jumped at the crackling radio.
“Yeah?” Bayley radioed back, her eyes never leaving Meredith’s.
