Hapseong Sarpionist Deurama

Chapter 13: flamboyant roommate

Chapter 13: flamboyant roommate

Oct 06, 2026

Oh no, what am I gonna do? What are we going to do? If they are near, this could… mess everything up. We can’t fight cops, no, after Kim’s transmission, why is…

‘Jeongin! What are you gonna do? I know you don’t want to brawl with them, so…’ Paulina asked while she was raising her arms.

‘I think we could use Rowan’s powers to enter both houses and bring our outfits and important belongings’.

‘Yes darling, that sounds great,’ Dilka opined.

The communicator of Jeongin vibes, and he tried to pick it up, but his shaking hands made him feel regretful.

‘No, don’t think so. If we do that, they're gonna see my holes, and they’ll know Dilka and Jeongin’s identification.’ Rowan insisted.

‘And what would happen if we touched every door in the neighbourhood, leaving the holes?’ Paulina suggested.

‘We could make a mess for every citizen here, Paulina’.

‘That’s true, Jeo, but at least we could get our way against the police,’ Rowan spoke.

‘No’.

Dilka was biting her cheeks, Jeongin was thinking, Rowan was watching the environment, and Paulina was breathing faster.

‘Don’t lose… don’t lose…’ Paulina whispered, her chest heaving like a mountain.

Jeongin pointed to a magazine store, and they followed him. Before catching the police’s attention, Rowan was making expressions of pressure after finding the section of corpses and accidents. Paulina was walking, shaking her shoulders, and closing her eyes rapidly.

‘Are you ok? Pau,’ Dilka inquired.

A rapid, low-pitched squeak came out from Paulina, and some flames too, from her shoulders. ‘Don’t lose! Don’t lose,’ she was mumbling.

Everyone in the group was shocked; Rowan and Dilka widened their eyes, and Jeongin´s ears were ringing.

The man from the store tried to discover that noise; some people were looking too, the cops were still inside some flats, but others were waiting for their convoys outside.

Rowan was suggesting to Paulina to calm down, to breathe, and close her eyes, move fast to the host’s store, ‘hey, a nicy… nice day isn’t?’

‘Did you hear it?’

‘Oh what? That cop over there? Yes, probably they did something, are you…em…’

The host was trying to fix one’s gaze at Jeongin, but he ignored him and went out of the store to see the police. While Jeongin was crossing his fingers like a manipulative villain.

Paulina was eyes shifting, avoiding direct gaze, and breathing faster like an asthmatic. Rowan was fanning her with the magazine, but the flames were still there.

Dilka entered in a panic and snatched the magazine from him to put it on her skin. That action only worsened the situation and created a bonfire.

The people were looking at them. Jeongin noticed that; he felt their whispers. Even if he didn’t know what they said, he knew everything was like an ancient ruin.

Jeongin took some magazines and doused them with fire, to throw them far. ‘ok, Rowan, go with Dilka, and Paulina, you’re coming with me’.

Everyone took glasses from the store and went on; fortunately, no one in the streets was using a camera, a rare machine nowadays, but anyone never stop to look at them, and the cops ordered them to stop.

Paulina was still shaking her shoulders; the fire was decreasing, but she didn’t know if it was due to the wind or the calm. When they entered the zone, Jeongin turned back and asked Paulina to create a fire wall, and she did it, screaming with closed eyes.

‘I won’t lose it! I won’t lose any control!’ she sobbed.

The police officers picked up the radio and called for reinforcements.

‘Copy me? We need backup! We found them!’

Rowan was standing at the exit from her house. She handed some belongings to him: clothes, books, documents, and took her outfit.

Thanks for the firewall; they couldn’t see at all at Deep Opportunity’s faces, the lonely thing cops might see, were shadows from the fire, shadows who dance like ashes.

Jeongin did the same thing as Dilka: clothes, special outfits, gadgets, even food, and his ID documents.

They heard some sirens nearby; the reinforcements were there, on the other street, so, as planned to avoid hurting them, the Deep Opportunity dug holes in the ground, and Paulina welded the entrance like a scar.

‘Everything is fine?’ Jeongin requested.

‘In one piece,’ Rowan answered.

‘Now, where are we going? Paulina begged.

‘I don’t know. I think we could still live there for a long time, but now we don’t have any place to live; we need to leave this region’. Jeongin stated.

‘Ok, think what you need, and I’m gonna continue with this, we see later where to go out’.

‘I’d like to recommend you buy a compass.’

‘Remind me after leaving this shit hole,’ Rowan replied to Paulina.

‘For now, the only homes we got are Lâm and Anna, but Jeongin hates homemade houses, no matter how much love they were made of,’ Dilka joked.

Jeongin sighed, ‘Come on, I didn’t… say… in that way’.

‘You sure, Jeo? Because we remembered perfectly what Dilka said, you didn’t want to continue gossiping; how rude,’ Paulina shouted.

‘What kind of hero you want to be?’ joked Rowan.

Jeongin was scratching his head and removing all the dust from the ground which was falling down.

‘Listen, what I said in…’

‘No!’ shouted Paulina, moving her hands to convince him to stop.

‘But I…’

‘No! Now you will have your karma with Anna; you will sleep in the courtyard.’

Jeongin remained silent, and the rest of the group laughed loudly.

After 35 minutes of walking, Rowan went out the hole, and when he didn’t see anything, he brought the guys and barricaded the route.

‘So… are we gonna go with Anna, right?’ asked Jeongin whilst humming.

‘Don’t see if you remember, boy, but my friend was living near the flats.’

‘Oh! True! Why are you so calm?’ Dilka smiled.

‘I sent him a message some days ago, also Anna; he just explained he moved to the archipelago or those zones near, for now… Anna, she was calm because no one checked her zone.’

‘For now,’ gulped Rowan.

The group finally arrived at Anna’s house. Before entering, they observed every corner to see a possible police officer, but it was a white zone.

They entered. Anna was so surprised she didn’t think it; she hugged Paulina and the rest of the team.

‘What happened, guys? You didn’t tell me you planned to visit me’.

‘Yes, we know, and sorry, but there’s something we need to tell you. Do you remember when I informed you you should be careful about…’

‘The migration? Yes, but no one cares about us, and many people work here, so they don’t care what we're really doing’.

‘Good, good, but—’

‘Can we stay here?’ Rowan interrupted.

Anna was amazed after that, but she accepted without hesitation, and showed them the path again. Even if they knew it, she did it just for courtesy and went upstairs.

‘I’d like to apologize for the mess and the rooms. I didn’t know I was expecting visits, and I hope you don’t bother the privacy.

‘Ask that to Jeongin,’ Dilka chimed in and pointed to Jeongin, who was hiding his arms.

‘Fortunately, there’s a toilet; you don’t care about personal space too?’

‘Yes, I love privacy, but I’d do everything for the people who saved my life.’

‘You know what? Now I remember, many people saw us, but no one took any evidence,’ Dilka laughed.

‘We should thank that stupid war; now it's hard to find someone using those gadgets, even in this country.’ Rowan gulped.

‘Yes, just the reporters are interested in using it, but one day we won’t be so lucky’. Jeongin remarked.

‘What are you gonna do if that happens?’

‘I hope to be ready; there is still much equipment I’d like to acquire’. Jeongin responded to Rowan.

‘What about the money?’ asked Anna.

Rowan belted he was losing money; Paulina and Dilka agreed; they were wasting every day.

They explained that after the government news, they stopped working with locals, being afraid to be discovered. Anna requested what they’ve been working on; Rowan was working as a mechanic, Paulina as a support worker in a beauty salon, and Dilka in a cafeteria. Jeongin remembered something; he quaked that he worked in a station where he fixed some gadgets and tech equipment, and left.

Afterward, he went out to take a break, and checking his messages, there was a message from his old boss, who was asking him about his whereabouts. Jeongin didn’t respond; he took a pause and watched the dark sky.

He decided to explain to him that everything was splendid, nothing to worry about; he just took a break to visit his parents.

Damn, how can we survive this? It has been a while since my disappearance, and they confirmed that they didn’t have anything working on something. If we don’t resolve this, we’re gonna be dead.

I need new gadgets to get, but how or where can I…we get jobs for us? Or do we need to change our identities? How can Kim survive all this time without formal work? His identity is revealed, or it’s not his real identity.

When Jeongin entered, he was surprised to see Paulina on the floor, like a bed.

‘Ok, did you hold him, her…? Anyway… don’t give a fuck, I only call you because of him.’

‘Why are you talking to me in this way? I thought we were close friends,’ sang with a nice voice, almost like a woman.

‘Are you sure you didn’t stop taking your pills? Lâm, you’re making me feel sick.

‘Just help me, please, Do-hyeon. I want to see my husband again, and… my poor babies.’ Bawled and feel eyes fill up with water.

Lâm was in the same garage he visited some weeks ago; he was strapped firmly to a stretcher.
