I hate having to move. If I were to count the times I'd had to move before I turned ten, I'd have a grand total of twelve. Too many. This time, It's my senior year of highschool, I turn eighteen in four months, and I'm fucking pissed. Apparently it's to this small town in the middle of nowhere, where, I've been told, three people have gotten into college in the last six years. This education system must suck.
My first day, I got lost to all of my classes. The school isn't even that big, the numbers on all of the rooms are just fucked up. My science class is number 342 and my last period, Advanced Literature, is right next to it: number 22. What. The. Hell.
So, after my very traumatic experience with room numbers, I finally got to my last class of the day, and lo and behold, the most gorgeous guy I have ever seen. I've never really had a crush before, but my stomach dropped onto the tiles before I even knew his name. He somehow managed to pull of camo cargo pants, which is a feat I have tried and failed at many times before, and the zip up hoodie drowning him has little stars all over it, both from the design, and some from a pen.
"Class, this is Angel Iglesias...." I was decidedly not paying attention. My eyes were fixed on baggy clothes mystery guy, and if I'm not wrong, I think he was looking at me too. "Angel, you can sit next to Mawce. Ask him for help if you need it." He gestures toward the empty seat next to the guy, and my heart fluttered a little. I get to sit next to him! When I sat down, His head lifted just enough for me to see bright green eyes and thick hornrimmed glasses under his mop of vaguely wavy brown hair. His mouth twisted into a small smile, and the lesson started.
"Watch out for Mawce, he's gay..." Someone behind me said with disdain. I leaned back. "Well, lucky for him, it appears as though I am too." I debated on blowing a kiss, but I thought that might be a little too much for my first day. I tapped on Mawce's shoulder. "Hey, why did the teacher say to ask you for help? That was weird." He laughed a little, a small sound that brought butterflies from my stomach all the way up my throat.
"I'm the only person Mr. Eckles has ever taught to get higher than a 95% on the midterm exam."
"Wow! Congrats." So... cute guy was smart too. Fantastic news for me. We didn't really talk the rest of the class, but when yet more people told me to 'watch out' for Mawce, I said some very choicy words in German. The good part about knowing another language in a school taht barely teaches English is that when people question you, it'svery easy to say that the assignment confused you, and you were simply complaining about it very politely. That is not, in fact, what I said.
When I came back to the house, Claire and Lana were waiting expectantly. We had met a couple of times before, I mean, they are my new foster parents, but it was still really weird. "Make any friends?"
"Sort of?" I didn't want the conversation going any further, so I just went to my room. Did Mawce count as a friend? He was the nicest anyone had been today- I got a lot of 'carrot top's'. The tops of carrots are fucking green for Christ's sake! How stupid can people be?
The next couple of days went by in a blur. Mostly because I was busy staring at Mawce. Fuck, he was pretty. I know I sound a little bit obsessive, but I swear it's just because there's nothing better to do here. I lost the cord to my nintendo, so I have to wait another week to charge it, which means that until then, I'm stuck reading textbooks from the 70's about communism and the pythagorean theorem. Fuck that, by the way.
One day, I decided to be brave. "Hey, do you want to eat lunch with me?"
Mawce looked slightly contemplative before he smiled and said "Sure!"
Lunch was mostly uneventful, but I did learn that Mawce is a cat person (I thought so), is obsessed with space (I don't get the hype), has a twin sister in Indiana, and loves to read. I, on the other hand, probably overshared, but I was giddy about it anyways. The only downside is that I wasn't able to get his number. Alas, I shall await monday with great anticipation for when we may grace each other's presence yet again.
Seriously, Angel? That was a terrible line. Don't ever try to be shakesperean.
I'm trying to find another place to publish this on, but it'll be on Tapas until it shuts down! Mawce is a senior in highschool, and his life is a mess. Maybe the new kid can help? I think updates will be Saturdays, Mondays, and Thursdays! See you then <3
