Yeah, that's a hand made wand there. One of the rules of my universe is no distance magic without something that could transfer it. The human body emits magic with a very wide spread of effect, so it can work only at the very short distances without being disrupted. You can touch a surface, or be near a surface and effect it with magic, but if you want to do it on distance, you need some kind of transmitter.
