I can't really blame Death being really cautious and scared of Life, when everyone of Life's friends were terrible to him. Friends tend to share similar feelings as well as behaviors about things.
Not to mention the same reaction from literally everyone you meet? That will pretty much put caution towards anyone you meet afterwards.
