To celebrate Harvest we would like to share a story about Polevik, who fell in love with a woman.
For those, who are not familiar with Slavic mythology and demonology:
- Polevik – a protective spirit of the fields. During harvest polevics ran away from sicles and scythes, and in the end they hid in the last sheaf. The farmers were storing the last sheaf in the barn, to make sure that the Polevik survives the winter and will protect the fields next year.
Mokosh – Godess of Earth, fertility, a protector of women’s work and destiny.
Svetovit – God of abundance, fertility, divination, wisdom.
Diduch – the first sheaf cut during harvest, decorated and kept in the main room of the household, as a symbol of prosperity and Gods’ blessing.
