sexual dimorphism. Among dinosaurs the females were bigger and heavier. In mammals the male is usually heaver and bigger. Insects, the females are huge (if it's a colonial creature like an ant or termite or bee), beetles the males are longer and possess more elaborate displays (like horns). Spiders (females are way HUGE)
Birds, the female is larger, sometimes....usually but not always. The greatest difference in size is probably the blue whale where a male pushed the scale at 200+ tons.
