Being the creature living in the sand, they tend to burrow their nest underground. With good neighbour, their nest are interconnected. Like a network. Every nest entrance has a guardian. This guardian has another role too, they waited for their next meal to come by, then bite them and drag them underground.
So, if you are caught by the guardian, well... the rest is history.
