To celebrate Dziady, an ancient Slavic tradition, we would like to share a short story about the power of Veles and the wisdom of our ancestors (or, rather, our ancestors' ancestors).
For those not familiar with Slavic mythology and religion:
Dziady (direct translation: "Grandfathers") - feast held in memory of the dead ancestors. Originally Dziady was celebrated twice a year, in spring and autumn, The celebration involved an actual feast, where both the dead and the living could enjoy not only food but also music or even a steambath. The tradition of Dziady, although now heavily christianized, is still alive and celebrated in autumn.
Veles - Slavic God of underworld, earth, water and forest.
Navia - in Slavic believes, a place in the underworld, where souls "lived" after death. Navia was ruled by Veles and separated from the world of the living by a river or a sea.
