The classical forms of the walking dead are always cooler than the modern equivalent.

Risen is a graphic novel series set in the late 1700's in the French Colony of Haiti. A historical fantasy that mixes celtic mythology and voodoo.

Risen follows the creation of the voodoo houngan, Baron Samedi and his wife Mamman Bridgette and the events of the formation of the nation of Haiti, the countries slave rebellion and the curse placed on the island during the harrowing events of the time period.

It also follows a French Celt as he creates the very image of death in rural Brittany, an image that chases him from the fields of his birth to the stench of Paris's Latin quarter, to Haiti and New Orleans.
