So I took Santa from its more germanic roots. He was a shaman who saved a village from goblins apparently. He enslaved the goblins and made them make toys in repentance. The recent horror movie Krampus makes allusion to this same story. Also in Germany, Krampus, this massive goblin in a santa suit still sometimes rides beside Santa in parades.
