I remember coming up with the idea for the first strip while I was in the States with the in-laws, binge-watching the game show channel. It also explains why one of the answers is in the form of a question, Jeopardy-style, a game show known in Britain only through pop-culture references in other shows.
Pointless is sort of Family Feud in reverse, where contestants are rewarded for knowing the most obscure answer to a question with multiple answers. Write to BBC Amarica and demand they strt shwoing it now. It's much more life-affirming than round-the-clock Gordon Ramsay swearing at sous-chefs.

Smith is a Siamese cat. All he wants is a quiet life, the standard feline existence of sleeping, eating and sniffing things, leavened with the occasional bit of pouncing. It’s a pity that none of his friends will leave him alone long enough for it to ever happen.
