Yoshi’s Island is an SNES game that tasks Yoshi with reuniting a baby version of Mario with his brother Luigi, who has been taken hostage from the original King Koopa after hearing of a prophecy where the two plumbers usurp their empire.
--Verdict--
Art: The fact that the developers were able to make pixel art look like crayon just amazes me. The bright pastels and adorable characters paint a gorgeous landscape.
Gameplay: Yoshi is practically invincible: Baby Mario is not. Be prepared to hear lots and lots of screaming. This mechanic is by far one of the most annoying and frustrating parts of the game – and I don’t mean the fact that Baby Mario floats in the bubble, I mean the FREAKING SCREAMING.
Replayability: High. There’s tons of hidden content, the mechanics are solid enough to pick up and play whenever, and just to see the art alone is a good enough reason to pick up the controller again.
Would I recommend? If you have a SNES with this game lying around (or an emulator I guess *cough cough*) I definitely think you should pick this up at some point. The controls are tight, the art is great and the bosses are adorable – just be ready to mute your TV if you aren’t the best platformer.
