There was this artistic period in my college year that I call my 'Dark Period' of art. I really loved doing art of animals, cute things, and things that made me happy. I got a criticized and I agreed with them so I took the critique and started drawing out of my comfort zone. I ended up drawing some very dark and disturbing death related art and people then started to miss my cute art. My dark period stopped when I discussed this to my teacher. He said that there is no point in creating artwork that you despise, because if your heart isn't into it, your art won't look as good. How can the audience enjoy your work when you aren't true to yourself? Why create art that no one wants to buy or no one wants to see? I don't care much about creating edgy symbolic art that makes people uncomfortable and I agreed. Its okay to draw things that make you happy and build on your strengths. It doesn't make you a 'bad' or 'weak' artist if you don't like drawing a certain genre. You can be successful drawing any type or genre of art if you are passionate for it. Now I kinda dabble in both cute art and monster art. I'm all for critiques and I want to improve and build on my strengths, which is what I'm doing with my daily digital paintings. At the same time though I will remain true to myself by drawing things that make me happy, because it's a part of why I love art!
