Ayato's full name is 新妻 綾人(Niduma Ayato) in kanji. 綾 literally means a twill weave but the meaning is not that well known. 人 means a person and we often put this kanji at the end of a boy's name. His mother's name is 新妻 さゆり (Niduma Sayuri). Sayuri, her first name, is a lily's elegant name in Japanese.
