The older kids at the top of page 110 are 'Sixth Formers'. In the UK, the 'Sixth Form' is the last two years of secondary school, Year 12 and Year 13, in which students take their A-Levels (or an equivalent qualification, such as the IB). They're wearing striped ties because often the Sixth Form is a separate part of the school and has a different uniform (e.g. my Sixth Form had 'office-wear' as its uniform, instead of the navy blazer and blue kilt I had to wear through Year 7-11! haha) And that's your bit of British school trivia of the day :')
