When I finished inking this comic, I realized that the punchline was not as poignant as I at first imagined. The protagonist's solution to his problem - wait until he feels better - is so obviously useless when seen in this context. Yet I have been using this method for years without every questioning its efficacy.
Immediately after I realized this, I went out to a minor social event that I had otherwise planned to blow off. Nothing earth shattering happened there, but nothing catastrophic happened either, so it was overall a positive experience.
So, if nothing else, these comics somehow help me sort out what are societal problems, and what are personal problems. One day, they may even be funny as well.
The cursive subtitle is an amateur homage to Tim Kreider's work, in both style and substance. “The Pain – When Will It End?” inspired me to do more grown up comics. My dream is to one day meet him as a colleague. That may be not be for quite awhile, but it's nice to think about.
