On August 12, 2016 a spokesperson for the President of Indonesia released a statement that there was no room for LGBT movement in Indonesia. On March 4th, 2017 people took to the streets of Jakarta in a Women's March where people of all gender and sexuality marched together in defiance of discrimination of all forms.
I had written this for a while but kept debating on whether I should post it anywhere. I don't know if the message is naive or overly simplistic but I guess... I don't know. I want people to know that there is always room. Always. If not in the open embrace of the public, then in the spaces that your allies will stand in front.
I don't know if that's any consolation. I really don't know.
This is a really short drabble I wrote around September last year after a very queerphobic statement was released by a government official in Indonesia.
I guess this is a plea to those of us who don't necessarily understand the kind of hurt we could inflict by othering our LGBT family and friends.
