The drowning of Marzanna is an old Slavic tradition, celebrated around the time of spring equinox. Although the origin of this tradition is unknown, it is believed that the symbolic drowning of Marzanna is performed to bring end to winter and awaken the nature after the long, winter sleep.
Below we present an alternative version of the origin of this beautiful tradition – we hope you’ll enjoy it!
Slava!

For those who are not familiar with Slavic mythology and religion:
Marzanna (Morė, Morana, Morena or Mara) – Slavic Goddess of winter, death and dreams.
žertsa (from praslavic “žьrti” - to sacrifice) – a priest in Slavic religion.
