perhaps the memory part should be conveyed more clearly, you have to assume everyone is unable to read the description :U
perhaps have them as black and white blurry images in the back?
Or when she does enter a brief flashback like yours, you could black out the background, and show his face creeping in the back :U (before having her turn her back to see nothing as to emphasize it was an imagination)
