Axel was born under the goddess of misery and sadness, Achyls, and was set to work as a misery worker. A misery worker is in charge of accelerating a person's misery and sending the tears and pain shed up to the goddess herself. Axel absolutely hates his job but with the help of his friend they both set out to find ways to change their dreaded fate from having to stay in a world where betrayal is common.
