Jesus and Me

What is Truth?

What is Truth?

Truth is seen as knowable in scripture. It’s seen as clear and obvious, but today it is often believed that truth is unknowable, or at least that the truth about God is unfindable. Which is a confusing sentiment when we argue over something like climate change and claim we are right and that the truth is self evident, but about religion it is not.

We live in a reality in which things happen and react to what happened. It’s how we know our car brakes will work or that when I pick up a cup, my hand won’t phase through it (or that if it does, there’s a reason for it and not that I can never know why). We admit truth exists constantly, except when it comes to faith.

To me, it seems that is not because we don’t believe in truth, but rather because we don’t want to offend others. We want to live in harmony, which is never a bad thing, but to do so at the expense of truth is dangerous if in that truth impacts our future and will cause harm to befall others at the expense of being happy now, like knowing a mudslide will take out someone’s car if they keep driving and you could tell them it’s going to happen, but that’d be uncomfortable now, so you don’t.

“ Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) It’s a hard truth. This is something we may disagree with God on, but it is what God said. So we should recognize when we disagree with scripture, it’s not on an issue of whether truth exists usually, but rather on the character of God or whether scripture is trustworthy.

The first step in addressing the issue and discovering truth is to recognize what we believe and why.

Interesting insight, Kalyah! And great job on the comic! I definitely understand where you're coming from, seeing how there are several different ways to look at something, though not every perspective is necessarily right, especially according to God's Word. I just recently found your comic, and I really like how it's been turning out. There's a little bit of humor here and there, but there's also some serious Christian topics involved as well. Also, I'm sure consistently updating a web comic every week or two isn't very easy on its own. So, I can understand why you were having trouble doing so.

A slice of life comic about being a Christian and my life about Jesus and I. Think Calvin and Hobbes, but with a focus on what it's like to be a Christian.
