She has insisted they go see this exhibit that was only in for another week before rotation.
She stops in front of a massive framed black and white photograph. A black man in black shorts is kneeled; sitting on the heels of his feet with his back to them. One hand is in his lap while the other is extend, fingers out and open, reaching. His shoulder blades are protruding and his head is slightly bent down. All of this is against a white backdrop.
"If the frame was extended a bit more to the right what would we see him reaching for? A man? A woman? Would we see the object of his hated or his affection? Is he holding something now that we can't see? Is he in distress and do the people in his world even care? What isn't the story telling us?" She stops gesturing for a moment. "This is my favorite picture to show my students. It starts a long list of questions that they make up their own answers to. Again, art."
Throughout the rest of the exhibit he respectfully lets her give her sermon.
