It had rained all night and it was still raining. I looked out the window of my small apartment and sighed, wishing for it to go away. Rain brought sadness, and sadness brought memories of a past long forgotten. I slowly tucked a bookmark into the book I was reading and sighed. I needed some fresh air.
I exited my apartment and sat on the first step. I knew everyone in the building, but someone new was moving in on the level above me. I decided I was going to go out of my way to not say hello to them, nor introduce myself, because the person above me was always rude. Tyler and Sage were a couple that moved in a while back, and all they did was yell at some girl and fight. and make love. It was quite annoying. Then they moved out, and some other lady moved in. I don't quite remember her name, but she made three, count 'em, three holes in the ceiling. All of which I had to pay for. then Kitty moved in. Her real name was Katrina, and I absolutely loved her. She was very sweet, and would often bring down treat baskets and bread and other goodies. The only flaw with her was her friends, who were constantly making noise through the night, having parties and jumping around. One of them accidentally came to my house once. I never learned her name, but her shirt... oh god, her shirt. Let's just say that person on the shirt was NOT happy with where the tentacle-monster was touching them
These people were the reason I absolutely hated the person who lived above me, no matter who they were. Sage and Tyler were nice enough, and Kitty was so sweet and cute, but they both made to much noise or had friends that were to rambunctious. Then there was that other lady... I think she played softball, and practiced it in her apartment. Then, from my right, was a click. Someone had emerged from their apartment. That someone was Johnathon, the high school boy who could somehow afford his own apartment. He closed his door behind him and turned to me. "Oh! A nice morning, isn't it?" He said with a smile.
I gave him a weak smile in return. "Yeah, I guess."
"I don't think you really believe that. It's raining. I know very few people who like it when it rains." He said, shaking his head. "It's truly a shame. Rainy days are the best days."
I shrugged. "Well, they also can bring some sad memories. Where ya' going?" I asked, even though I didn't really care all that much.
He smiled again. He smiled a lot. "I'm heading to my friend Lydia's house with Alex and Griffin. I would invite you, but you're twenty and none of my friends know you." He laughed. I smiled.
"Well, I know Lydia. Doesn't she live down by that old house?" I inquired.
He nodded. "Yeah, I've been trying to get her to move but she always says that her cat loves the house they currently live in. I don't understand why she loves that cat so much." He smiled once more. "Well, I better go! Don't wanna be late!!" He said, taking a quick look at his watch and then racing down the hall.
I smiled at him and gave a little laugh. I wish I had friends like that, but I don't. My only friends are my clients, and they don't even like me that much. My job is simple - find people with magical potential and teach them to use that magic and kill the monster that's terrorizing some random village in another dimension. It's quite fun. Only one of them knows my tragic backstory, but I don't talk to them that much anymore.
I sighed and stood up, stumbled a bit and then walked back inside my apartment to finish the chapter of the book I had put down when I decided I wanted to get some fresh air.
