Lately, my wife and I have been Netflix-binging on home renovation programs. We love these shows even though it's obvious they're all scripted. The thing is, after a while, they all start to feel like the same show. So I'd like to suggest three home improvement shows I'd like to see HGTV option:
1. THE MEDIOCRE HANDYMAN: Every episode of THE MEDIOCRE HANDYMAN features Joe Average, a middle-aged husband and father, as he tackles small home repairs around his house. Throughout the series he shows us how to cut corners and find "workable resolutions." The problem might not be fixed, but at least it looks good!
2. MIDDLE-CLASS MORTGAGES: On MIDDLE-CLASS MORTGAGES, middle-class couples are paired with local real estate agents to find single-family homes ranging from $125,000 to $200,000. Homes between $200,000 and $400,000 are featured on the spinoff, UPPER MIDDLE-CLASS MORTGAGES. Homes listed above $400,000 are featured on HOUSE HUNTERS.
3. SURPRISE! WE SCREWED IT UP!: This show takes the "surprise remodel" format and turns it on its head! Each episode, the SURPRISE! WE SCREWED IT UP! construction crew builds a brand new, state-of-the-art home for a family in crisis. The one caveat: something WILL be screwed up! It might just be some loose tile in the bathroom, or it could be sewage pipes that aren't connected correctly. You never know what'll happen, which is why it's a SURPRISE!
