Mephiles’ POV
I shut my eyes and await my death. Instead, a loud crash and thud sounds. I snap my eyes open. My bedroom door was in pieces and the person was slowly sitting up from my floor. He stood there paralyzed as I take in his look. Black hedgehog with five quills on the front. Just like Silver. His eyes snap open and meet mine. Gold. Who the hell is this?
A jerk on my wrist pulled me down the hall and stairs and out the house. The same guy from before landed in front of us with an ominous ‘thud’, the sidewalk breaking from the force he must’ve landed with. His eyes were almost blank but I could see the daggers behind them. The knife was no longer in his hand.
“You can’t stay in front of him forever Silver. Just move aside so I can finish this now. Get it all over with. I’ll never bother you again.”
“Lair. You said the same about Adrian. I’m not letting you take Mephiles away from me like you did him.”
“Hn Hn… If you insist…”
A sword then materialized in his hand. The long blade barely grazed the ground as it rested in his grip. In the dim lighting, I could make out that it wasn’t made of a normal metal. The handle looked to be made out of bronze or obsidian with a half-purple-half-blue gem at the bottom of the hilt.
I stared at the new weapon in fright and amazement. What. The. HELL?! Who Is This Guy?! What Is He?!
I decided to take back my question as I watched a similar sword, but with a golden gem, materialize in Silver’s own hand. Then the two launched at each other. Their swords clashed and I was only able to back up in fright.
This isn’t happening… This can’t be happening… I’m dreaming… Yeah… It’s just a dream…
“Why are you always so disapproving?!” Silver yelled.
“Because you don’t deserve to have him!” his father yelled back.
“Didn’t you once say that your parents told you the same thing about mom?! You know-”
“Your mother has nothing to do with this!”
“She has everything to do with this! You went insane after she passed. You blamed me and Adrian because her death! You are the one who shouldn’t have deserved her!!”
“You incisive little brat!” The bulky King then swiped his hand to his sons face. Silver fell to the ground with a yelp and holding his cheek. I stood there shocked. This man… He should’ve thought twice…
I turned into my crystal form and launched from behind the door at the dark male. My razor sharp fingers cut across his chest, leaving four marks that were going to scar. He stumbled back and looked at the blood that began to pool down his chest. His golden, dagger wielding eyes snapped to my furied green.
“You will pay for that…” he growled.
“If anything, you didn’t deserve to be a father,” I hissed.
His pupils became slits and he ran at me, sword in hand.
A hit me to the side of the head brought me back to reality. I yelped and fell to the ground clutching where I was hit. My ears were ringing and my sight was blurry and overlapping. My body swung to the sides, only helping in making it harder to focus.
I noticed a shadow cover me and look to see Silver. He was trying to talk to me. The worry in his eyes indicated that he was asking if I was alright. I opened my mouth to speak but the shadow behind him prevented me from doing so.
Silver’s POV
I rested a hand on Mephiles’ shoulder as I called to him. He looked at me dazed and I knew it was going to take a while for him to recuperate. The shadow of my father fell over me and Mephiles.
“For being the strongest of his family, he sure is weak,” he said.
I growled. In a swift move, I stood up, spun around, and swung my sword at my father. He easily blocked it with his own, holding our blades above our heads. A devious smirk crawled onto his face.
“He was never worth the time,” he sneered.
“Mephiles has done more for our home than you ever did,” I hissed.
He chuckled. “Of course he did. That’s why I hate him so much.”
My father retracted his arm, I following suit. I was the first to strike this time as I jumped forward with speed that would’ve competed with Sonic or Shadow. I clashed with my father and sent him flying back into the street.
Spinning around, I grab onto Mephiles, and run for my house. Mephiles was still in his dazed state, knowing from how I nearly dragged him, but he regained his composure once we finally reached the house. I race inside and use my telekinesis to shut and lock all the doors and windows, just as I had done at Meph’s. But when I peered through the curtain, expecting to see my father, I gawk at something much worse.
Red clouds began to swirl just over Station Square. A black-rimmed hole formed in the center. A portal… Between this planet and home. He’s going to destroy this world to get to Mephiles…
I jump as I hear a phone buzz. My head snaps to Mephiles who’s reaching into his pocket. He pulled out his hand held device, going to put it to his ear when I snatched from him and answered myself.
“Mephiles!! You have to get to Station Square!! Fast!! There’s this portal that’s being formed and all these creatures are flying out of it!! We need to stop this before they destroy the city!!” Tails yells from the other side.
I flick my ear back to get rid of the slight ring from his screeching. “Tails, listen to me. You won’t be able to close that portal. The only thing you can to right now is get the people out of the city.”
“Wait… Silver? Is that you?”
“Yes, it is me. I know what is causing that portal and I know what those things are. You have to get the people out of there. Let me handle the rest, got it?”
I didn’t give him time to answer as I hung up. I turned to mephiles and asked, “Are you alright Meph?”
The ebony hedgehog was shaking like a leaf with more than terror in his wide-eyes. “What is going on?”
I sighed sympathetically. “I can’t really tell you much. But-”
“Why? Why can’t you tell me much Silver? Why can’t you just give me an explanation? Who was that guy? Why is this happening? Why is he trying to kill me? Why do you and him look so much alike?”
“I can’t tell you certain things because it’ll cause complications. That guy was my dad. He’s trying to kill you because he doesn’t want me to be happy.”
Shock and confused green eyes stare at me. They then moved to the side as the owner when into thought. “Who’s Adrian?” he asked softly.
I go still. My breath gets caught in my throat and my heart skips a beat. Adrian… I sigh and look back out the window. There was a giant group of people that ran from the city. Winged demons flew down and started to kill some of them. I flinch away from the sight. As much as I want to help, my father is just trying to get me away from from Mephiles so he can strike.
A hand comes and rests on my waist. I look at it before following the arm up to meet the person's gaze. Mephiles stared down at me with sorrow and wanting. Pity for probably guessing that it was something bad, which it is, and need for knowledge. I stare back at him with sadness.
I then face him fully, and hug him. My forehead rested on his chest as me arms wrapped around him. I nuzzle into his chest fur and take in a deep breath of his scent. I feel his arms wrap around my waist and chin settle on top my head.
“I won’t let him take you from me,” I finally say.
