Edwain sat up slowly, finding himself surrounded by darkness he didn't even remember falling asleep. Turning to look out the window behind him on the couch he could see the moon just a sliver sticking out through thick dark gray clouds. Slowly he rubbed his hair down, as he had several strands standing up from him rubbing his head against the sofa he was laying on.
Standing up he placed his hands on his behind his back and bent backward. The room was so quiet, but he could still hear the music from a neighboring booth. In the corner, in the bed Saraphina laid. With her wig on, she had only removed the male jacket and placed it next to her.
On the table sat the food she had requested him to provide, barely touched. Edwain put his hand to his stomach as he growled. “The last thing I want to do is run into those people again... Guess I should be thankful she has a small appetite.” He sat down and began to eat the ice cold food that was left on the plate, The different flavors mixing into one as he paid little attention at what he was placing on his fork before stuffing his face.
“Edwain, what's the male academy really like?” Saraphina's voice was really low, her body turned away from him, facing the wall.
“You should be asleep.”
“I was trying to, but... I'm scared.”
“You seemed so enthusiastic before.”
“I was, I mean I am. Why does it take me pretending to be a guy to be able to actually have some freedom?”
Edwain let out a loud hard laugh catching Saraphina off guard. The quick snapped outright in the bed, her hands beside her. Edwain looked over at her and laughed a but more. Saraphina had always had long hair, seeing her with short hair that was currently sticking up in all direction caught him off guard. “You look like a troll doll!” He chocked up.
“Shut up!” Saraphina took one of the two pillows she was sleeping on and throw it at him. The pillow didn't even make it to the coach, instead, it landed directly on the plate of food.
“Hey! I was eating that!”
“Too bad!”
Edwain slammed his hand on the table, fork in hand. “You just wait! I will make your life living hell when we get to the Academy!”
“Well you shouldn't have randomly laughed at me,” Saraphina's voice became low once more, her face was slightly lit by the mood light and Edwain caught a glimpse of sorrow in her eyes that caught him to lean back in his seat.
“Look Saraphina, You really think you will have some freedom just because Mary Rosewood can't watch your every movement? You want to know what the male academy is like? It's like a book camp, set up to train soldiers and nothing more. Most of your classes will be battle simulations including physical battles between your peers. Honestly, the girl Academy will look like a-”
“So there really are actual battles?” Saraphina's voice had become clearer. Edwain watched her get out of the bed, throwing the blankets to the side with little care. “That sounds perfect!” Saraphina twirled around taking in a deep breath. “In fact earlier today I had gotten into something like that with Yulisha Victoria Averson! Don't worry she started it, but I'm pretty sure I won!”
“Wait, you got into something with Victoria and you lived?” Edwain tilted his head, his eye brows raising. Slowly he removed the pillow from the pile of food and expected it. Still questioning how edible it remained.
“Yep, I even broke her nose.”
“Impressive, then I guess I had no reason to worry.”
“You worry? Don't make me laugh. Anyways, Edwain why are you still eating that? You could have just went and got something else right?”
“Most of the passengers on this train are regular people and have a stigma against us magic users. I just didn't want to deal with them stares. I wasn't thinking and didn't bring a change of clothing so can't really hide the fact that I'm a magic user.”
“D-does that mean we can't eat until we get off?”
“Why do you look so sad!” Edwain became baffled as he watched Saraphina pout in front of him. “You are such a pain, why are you always like this!” Edwain placed the fork in his mouth and continued to chew. “You barely touched this and now you want to complain. If you want something else the main food cart is 3 carts away you can always get it yourself.”
“Na, that's alright I can make it,” Saraphina muttered as she made her way across the cart and took a set next to him. She placed her right elbow on her right thigh and leaned her head against her right hand. “So why didn't my grandmother just... open a room right to the male academy? I mean. This is a pretty boring ride. Did she really think you would want to talk to me all day long?”
“That's what I was king of wondering myself,” Edwain continued to eat. After a few moments he stopped his eyes widened as he tilted his head in Saraphina's direction. Her eyes were facing the windows ahead of them watching the dark landscape pass them by. “Wait a minute Saraphina. Can't you just make a portal like her?”
“Nope, at least, no yet. I've done it before, but I can't control the location. To do that I would have to be able to know the exact contents where something is located on earth. In fact, my grandmother just pushed me onto a moving train. She knew this booth exact location, right down to this exact booth that second. There is no way I could do that.”
“Right... Of course, you couldn't” Edwain rubbed the back of his neck.
“Gee, you are very encouraging.”
“I wasn't trying to be. W-what would have happened if she was off and you ended up right in front of the train or on a different booth?”
“If I ended up in front of the train I would have been smashed now wouldn't I have? If I would have magically teleported onto a different cart... well I most likely would have been arrested, since it's illegal to use a magic.”
“That's a lot of faith you have in your grandmother man.”
“Faith! I didn't know she was going to open a door onto a fucking train!”
Edwain burst into a laugh. “It will be awesome hearing you freely talk like how you want all day long potty mouth princess!”
“Ahh shove it!” Saraphina puffed out her checks while founding her arms over her stomach. Saraphina moved over on the coach and slowly let herself fall over her head landing on Edwain's thigh. “I know I am not longer Saraphina Rosewood, but just until we get to the school let me lay here.” Saraphina closed her eyes. Edwain didn't hesitated continuing to pick at the food, but suddenly realized something he hadn't before. “Until we get off? Hey you do realize we are still on this train from another 8 hours right?”
“Don't ignore me Saraphina!”
