After my brief and unexpected conversation with Becky, I realise that I still have nothing to do until everyone else wakes up. I walk out of the bathroom and turn left instead of right, not wanting to go back just yet, even though I have no idea where I'm going.
I feel completely alone, walking down plain, white corridors into more plain, white corridors. After what feels like hours of daydreaming about school and personal fantasies to pass the time, I start walking back to the room to see if anyone's awake, not that I would talk to them if they were. After getting lost countless times, I finally manage to get back to the room the staff have named 'Room 6'. I walk back in to find it silent, only one person awake and moving. Surprisingly, that person is sitting on my bed, looking through my drawers and pulling out the few clothes that I'd managed to put in them. She has black hair, four bracelets on her wrist and a full face of makeup.
"Excuse me?" I whisper to her when I reach the bed, not wanting the wake the others.
"What are you looking at?" She replies angrily.
"Why are you on my bed?"
"Your bed? You must be mistaken, this is my bed now. It's closest to the radiator, so it's warmer, and I want to sleep here, so go away."
"I was here before you and I chose this bed. You see the clothes you're throwing on the floor, those are my clothes. So if you wouldn't mind moving to the empty bed over there so that I can have my bed back..."
"Nope. I already told you, this is mine now. Haven't you ever heard the saying 'Finders Keepers'? Moron."
"But you didn't find it..."
"Please stop talking, you're giving me a headache. Why do you want this bed so much anyway? Why can't you just go over there?"
"You see the girl next to you?" I point to Ruby, who's surprisingly still asleep despite all the loud talking. "She's my twin sister, and you're not separating us."
"Listen!" She stands up and shouts, waking up most of the people in the room. "I don't care if that ginger is your sister, or that you got here first! I'm having the bed and that's settled. Unless you want to fight me or something, but be warned, I've bullied a lot of people before!"
"And you're proud of that?"
"I swear to god if you don't leave me alone..." She raises one of her hands, intending to slap me, at which point I raise my fists and get into a fighting stance. At that exact moment, someone familiar rushes through the door. It's Becky, the woman I met in the toilets.
"What the hell is going on here? Explain yourselves!"
"Well..." I say loudly, glaring at her. "...she's not getting out of my bed, even though I got here first." I feel ridiculous, like a ten-year-old telling on someone to a teacher.
"You're the head of the dorm, Lilly, so you can decide where she goes. New rule!" The girl stands up and raises her voice again, clenching her fists.
"Hold on a second. How is she the head of the dorm? When did we decide who the head of the dorm is?" Now everyone in the room is awake, most of them groaning and wishing they could go back to sleep. A few of them turn to us to watch the argument. Great, now I feel even more ridiculous.
"Lilly is the oldest Amelia, so by my ruling that makes her the best suited for the job. So pick up your bags right now and move!" Amelia sighs with frustration and gives me an evil stare before slowly walking to the empty bed and dropping her bags on it. She turns around and shouts, receiving angry insults from people around the room.
"Oh, and by the way Lilly? You have horrible clothes, you really need to get some more, but definitely not from me. I don't want them to be infected with your germs."
"How mature." It reminds me of games I used to play in Primary school. You had to run away from people who would try to touch you and infect you with their 'germs'. Becky rolls her eyes and quickly walks out the door, obviously in a rush to get somewhere. I quietly laugh and sit down on my bed, waiting for Becky to leave.
"By the way, Amelia? I wouldn't be seen dead in your clothes, you might want to consider getting some more." I was told to make sure no one argues, then I immediately end up in an argument. Becky must have conflicted opinions of me right now. She's definitely going to be a problem, one that I need to solve before it gets out of hand.
