i looked this up. concentrated high temperatures can indeed shatter concrete, but to actually break a giant piece with a laser you'd need quite a while to do it as the heat isn't in the beam itself but is generated by the energy hitting an object. also, i know sound isn't much impeded by water, but david is not used to screeching things apart from a distance. i think i put too much thought into this maybe
