Pondering on this, she smiled slightly as Kyo was making a face as though he was constipated, despite his wings fully out. Ghost waited a further five minutes for the students to change. They had all picked it up reasonably well, many doing it straight away like the angels.
“Right, now you have all done it, we will start on your proper lesson. I’m meant to assign you job classes, so you can attend the right night class, then teach you my own subject,”
“And what IS your subject Ghost?” spoke Katie out loud. Ghost ignored her and carried on as Diago gave her a side on look. She choose not to notice and sat there looking sulky.
“As I was saying, it is time to assign you a job. You will learn about what you can do and how to do it in night classes after main school, usually taught by prefects. To be able to distinguish what you would be best at, I will divide you into your race groups and then set you tests. Please push the desks to one side of the classroom,” there was a lot of noise as students got up and began to push their desks to either side of the classroom. Diago came up close to Katie
“What is wrong with you sis? You’ve got a right attitude on!” Katie ignored him and shoved her desk into the wall and then leaned against it.
“C’mon sis, you can talk to me,” she looked at Diago and immediately felt guilty. He looked worried about her. Sighing, she shrugged and looked at the floor sulkily.
“Don’t worry about it Dig, its just me. Time of the month kinda thing,” Diago pulled a face but nodded. It was a useful lie, and one that she knew would stop Diago worrying as much. She often got very grumpy when she had PMS. Everyone had gathered into their species groups, the Angels lingering at the back.
“Right! Each race should have the same job, so we will start with you Angels at the back. Step into the middle of the room please, the middle of the pentagram would be nice,” Katie scowled at Ghost and followed the others.
“Right, first of all I want you to find your power. Close your eyes and probe inside of your soul. You are searching for your power, it should feel like a sphere,” Katie shut her eyes and sighed, relaxing and blocking out everything that was swirling round her brain, “Imagine you are on a flat plain. In front of you is a mountain. Your power is on top of that mountain. Go get your power,” Katie frowned at the sound of Ghost’s voice, but did what he said. As if it was real, the plain appeared, knee high with lilac flowers, Katie could almost smell them. In front of her a mountain reared up, dark and threatening. She scowled at it, thinking it shouldn’t be that hard. At that very thought, it shrunk in size, reducing to a big hill. Something glowed atop of it, pulsing and making the hair on her arms stand on end. With determination, she began to walk to the hill. It was steep, making her legs ache as began to climb it, making her wonder about how real this spirit place was. The closer she got the top, the more the air felt as if it was full of electric, except it smelt more like the earth and grass. The light at the top was green and she gasped as she could feel it starting to reach out to her, pulling her forward with energy that wasn’t her own. Breaking out into a run, her legs and lungs burnt as she broke the top of the hill, falling into a giant ball of light. A feeling of ecstatic happiness suddenly enveloped her as everything disappeared and her world suddenly turned green, the smells of the earth increasing filling her with a sense of being the planet itself. A voice suddenly broke through her cocoon of green and she opened her eyes and staggered slightly as she came back down to the classroom. The smell of the lilac flowers broke the air and she looked about to see Ghost grinning at her.
“Well looky here, the girl of the group was the first to find her powers. Looks like you have the element of Earth strong with in you. Though I would of preferred if you didn’t break my floor tiles,” Katie looked down to see the lilac flowers of her inner plain sprouting out of cracked classroom tiles. This was odd in itself as they were on the fourth floor. The others were still standing with their eyes closed. She looked at her hands, that were tingling, and they had green glow around them.
“That glowy light is your power manifesting itself. It looks like you do not need to learn to much control as…” he was interrupted as a strong wind suddenly buffeted everyone in the room then swirled round Diago, who glowed white for a moment, then reduced it to his hands. He opened his eyes and stumbled like Katie did but righted hisself and grinned at Katie.
“Woah. That was intense,” as he breath out a small cloud came with his breath and dissipated along with the wind.
“Ah, Mr Jones you have the power of Air. Maybe you four are mages,” Ghost frowned and scratched his chin looking to Dae and Kyo, “Well that only leaves two more elements…Erm you two, the twins, you might want to step back a bit. I have a feeling the red head might not have as much control as you. Though the blue head seems to be powerful enough,” Dae frowned and gritted his teeth.
“My name…is Dae Barret,” he said through his teeth. Water suddenly erupted from around his feet and twisted into a water spout aimed right at Ghost.
“Dae no!” Diago reached out to his friend, accidentally freezing the water with an ice cold wind. Diago looked at his hands, “Did I do that?” Dae opened his eyes and frowned at Ghost then folded his arms and dropped his face into blank. Ghost scowled at the young man and waved one hand. The frozen waterspout disappeared in a tinkle of tiny ice sparkles.
“Okay, all three of you, definitely need to step back now since the red head is obviously the fire elemental, and I don’t think he will be able to control his powers as you three can,” Katie stepped back away from Kyo, giving Dae a sideways look. He seemed calmer now but there seemed to be an air about him, like the ocean before a storm. Katie could almost smell the salt water. Kyo was now stood alone in the middle of the room, frowning hard as he concentrated. Ghost was muttering under his breath and making small hand movements and the air tingled with magic. The other students had gathered together as far away from Kyo as possible, looking at him fearfully. The air swiftly turned superheated as Kyo’s face relaxed and he grinned.
“Wooooooohooooooooooooooo!” he yelled as fire erupted from his feet, sending him flying through a window, glass shattering everywhere.
