Now screaming in general wouldn't really be a bad thing if the circumstances were different. Like a child having a temper tantrum or if someone suddenly scares you, those would all be fine.
If, of course your human.
For sirens things were much different. We prize our voices above all else, most believe its the source of our powers and the very essence of our souls.
The thing is, while we would spend all day singing our hearts out. There was a flip side to our primal power, that was also the source of M.Y.T.H`s need to keep us confined and away from humanity.
And Aphrodita was demonstrating that reason so well.
Her screams ripples out and jets of pool water whipped around us like a tornado, the explosion of sound waves slamed into the agents, knocking them off their feet and straight into the walls.
The sudden scream had caught me off guard as well and pushed me into the now half empty pool.
As tidal waves of water cocooned me like a blanket, I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed at the unnatural warmth of it. But that quickly disappeared as my head slammed against the side.
Pain spiked and dazed for a few moments, or maybe it was longer than that.
While I tried to grasp onto some sort of reality I felt something.... pulse? like a tugging at my chest and a tight gripping at my heart, it spread out through my veins and-
Just disappeared completely.
What-
The sounds of something slamming together above me was muffled but it still managed to pull me out of my thoughts. I`m slightly wobbly on my legs but by some miracle I pull myself up onto my legs and my vision clears slightly.
Only to be greeted by the sight of Aphrodita, who`d finally stopped screaming and Hebe, being taken in by two agents, one looked like that new agent Alex, the other was, again, another new agent.
Geeze, what is it with all these new faces all of a sudden.
"And you as well!" the new one shouts and I give a sigh and slightly waddle my way to them. the details of the room were frustratingly blurry but I still managed to make it to the other side.
I knew getting out was going to be hard work, but even so I gather every bit of focus move to pull myself out.
A hand is thrust into my view and I look up to see striking electric blue eyes. I give a quick look over him, onyx black hair and toned frame, to be honest he looks like he jumped out of a teen romance novel, the black sleeveless hoodie and black fingerless gloves only seemed to accentuate that.
"Hey, get up. Or maybe you`d like to ask me out on a date"
Aaaannnndddd just like that I wanted to slap him.
I push his hand to the side and use all my strength to jump up, determined to ignore him after that. Its only when I haul myself up over the pool edge completely that Alex recognise seems to me.
"Hey I-"
Just as Alex speaks a group of, I think six more agent come flooding through the door along with Grant, his glasses doing nothing to hide the deep menacing aura around him.
Someone pushes though and I instantly recognise it as Vivian, looking undoubtedly angry, her heels clicking almost threateningly on the tiles towards us.
"Agents, these two back to their house. And keep them there until I say so" she snaps and an agent goes to take Aphrodita.
"Don't you dare touch me-!"
"I`d suggest you go, unless you plan to be under permanent house arrest, or maybe maximum security would be better for you to cool off. Remember your here because we allow it" She must be really pissed to threaten with maximum security.
For some reason dumb reason Aphrodita goes to argue with her but thankfully Hebe steps in.
"Sis please, we promised mom remember" She looks up at her and, thank the gods, Aphrodita backs down, surprisingly quickly.
"Good" she signals to the agents and guide them out, leaving Alex, Grant, Vivian, me and mr cocky.
Its only when their gone does Vivian then turn to me, I couldn't tell if she was going to slap me or just plain yell at me. Neither seemed better.
"Not only have you breached M.Y.T.H protocol, but you`ve actively assisted in the escape of two young sirens" Her voice sounds almost strained but I couldn't really make it out.
"I only lead them here, they didn't escape" she takes a step towards me, but I stay my ground, refusing to be pushed back.
"Be thankful this is an isolated incident, I`m sure that I don't have to remind you of the punishments regarding the use of primal powers."
"Of course not and she was the one singing not me!" I glare at her.
"Then explain that" she points to the pool behind me.
Ice has curled and spikes over the walls, some even crawling angrily up the sides of the pools, creating a light mist that looks almost mystical. To be honest it had its own kind of beauty, but my mind was currently racing at the fact that this was even possible.
"Wait, there's no way this way me, I`m hardly strong enough to create this much ice!" Vivian give me a look like she doesn't believe me.
"Seven, Al-"
"Agent Seven, Lieutenant"
Shock spreads across all our faces and Seven looks completely calm, like he hadn't just blatantly disrespected his superior. Now since I was a siren, M.Y.T.H rules and such were kept secret to us, but even I knew you did not interrupt your superior, agent or not.
Grant moves to speaks but Vivian hold her hand up to cut him off.
"This is my jurisdiction and so it is by my decision that you are even allowed to be here in the first place. And right now you are no higher than this whelp here" She descends on Seven with all the fury and rigorousness that you`d expect her to have.
"Crap she`s pissed" Alex whispers behind me, I think he was too afraid of Vivian to even be offened at being called a whelp.
"So if I refer to you as Seven, I will do so until you earn your status. Am I clear" She wasn't aiming at me but gods did I feel small. I was surprised Seven wasn't curled up in the corner in the fetal position, instead he looked her dead in the eye and answered.
"Yes, Lieutenant"
"Good, Agent Grant" Stonic turns to her and nods, signalling Seven and Alex, who`d seemed to be hiding behind me, to follow him out.
Its only when their figures disappear that Vivian turn to me.
"Is there anything you want to tell me?" She says, waiting for an answer that I didn't have.
"Listen, I went though my tests at the beginning of the month. The strongest I can do is turn a cup of water solid, and even that was a push, this-" I wave my hand behind me.
"-this is wwwaaayyy out of my boundaries" She smiles like she`s enjoying some secret joke.
"I`m aware, I saw the recordings. But that's not what I was referring to" I give her a confused look and she pulls out a black phone from her blazer, flipping it open to show me a video of the trip I`d made over the wall last night.
My hearts sinks, crap.
"That's a dangerous move, especially in your circumstances" I barely hold the urge to glare at her.
"And I`m surprised to hear this morning that one of the men we hired experienced similar symptoms to being influenced by a Sirens song. Now I`m not saying its you, but the evidence is certainly damming." I have no room to argue.
"So what now? I`m shipped out to gods know where?" She smiles and shakes her head.
"No, but I do want you to do something for me" I`m dubious.
"And what exactly would that thing be?" I ask slowly.
"I want you to sign the contract we gave you" And it clicks into place.
"So basically all of this was to black mail me into signing that paper and essentially hand my freedom over to you" I go to push past her and storm out but she grabs my arm.
"Cynthia, this is about so much more" I rip my arm out of her grasp.
"Sure it is" I growl and I make it to the stairs before she speaks again.
"We aren't the ones you need to be fighting. Your our only lead on whoever is killing your people. Regardless of what you think, our job is to protect, even against people who look to kill your kind" I stop mid step and Vivian speaks softly.
"This person is dangerous and I can not stand to loose anyone else. I`m trying to stop anymore loss and with what we`ve been given, your the only lead we have, the only chance we`ve got" she places her hand on my shoulder but I don't move.
"How do I know your telling the truth? and this isn't a new form of punishment for going into human territory?" I hear her sigh.
"Cynthia, we are seriously worried about you, and we want to protect you. I don't want to keep you under lock and key, that's not what M.Y.T.H is about. But I do want to see you safe"
When I look back at her I can see her eyes are serious and my mind races. Maybe I should, I`d be watched constantly, but at the very least if nothing happens then the team would have to disband and I go back to my daily routine.
But if something did, then M.Y.T.H has pretty much saved my life.
Everything seemed to point towards me agreeing, it was just the idea of my every action being watched and or guided. It was bad enough when I couldn't get out to swim once a month, I couldn't imagine what it`d be like to be confined 24/7.
"I cant give you an answer now, just... just give me time to get my head around it" I say and she gives a slightly disappointed sigh.
"I wont lie its not the answer I was looking for, but I understand your choice. But please, seriously consider it" she walks past me, up to where I`d guess a team of agents were waiting.
I rub my head as I try to sort everything out. So it pretty much came down to my safety from a psychopath that may or may not want to kill me, or my freedom, great.
"How long are you planning to stand there?" Looking up I find Mr teen novel Seven looking down at me, a ghost of a smirk on his face. I don't remember hearing anyone come back in.
"Not long, so bye" I gradually make my way up the stairs, expecting him to move.
"Planning another sea trip?" How did-
He must have seen the video from Vivian.
"Home" I say, almost growling as I stand in front of him, looking up to give my best glare, hoping to mentally move him.
"Nice eyes" he tips his head and I`d be shocked if I wasn't so mentally drained.
"And your here why exactly?" he looks like he`s enjoying a personal joke, just to annoy me.
"I`m offering to walk you back home" I give him a blank look before pushing past.
"I`ll take that as a no" I don't even think before replying with.
"You can take that as a hell no"
