I lay down in my bed with Terity on the floor and Odd sleeping in a hand-made hammock he brought with him as he hung near the ceiling snoring away. I thought of the things that have happened in this past few months, and just today, I have two strange kids sleeping in my bedroom who are from the city, thinking about what they said, all those cool gadgets they had. I also began to think about what the I.P.L. and what they were doing in the mine, were they building something, does it have to do with that rock that Odd had, none of this seems to make sense but I’ll make sure I get to the bottom of this. Then when I was about to drift off to sleep until something else came to mind, then I turn in my bed to face Terity.
“Hey Terity, you asleep?” i whispered not to wake Odd
“Barely, what is it scaredy cat?”
“Shut up, I was thinking when you were talking to my mom, what do you mean you have to leave in a couple of days, I thought to said that you had nowhere to go?”
She turns her head to me so I can see her face, which has sags and crows feet from her being tired.
“When me and my brother were in the city, we over heard some guards saying their gonna take you guys, I mean the villagers, into the city and were gonna leave this island, thats how me and my bro got to know this place.” Her eyes then made her look scared and a bit nervous before she turns over again.
Then it struck me in the head, it was true, we are leaving, but where?
As I wake up to the sounds of birds chirping I find myself aching in bed, guess I slept wrong. Another thing wrong this morning is to find Odd hanging upside down looking at the same rock he showed me in the field. He seems to me scratching it with a piece of metal that was probably in my room. I get up out of bed and headed out of the room not knowing if Odd seen me or not. I went downstairs to see some bread and eggs on the table with a note next to it.
Kodath,
Went to see aunt calla, says she’s not feeling well. I left you some breakfast and please clean up a little bit, don’t know when i'll be back. Lots of love.
Mother.
I read the note wondering what happened to Aunt Calla, hoping shes alright. I eat up and cleaned my dishes, cleansed the house a little bit so it wont look like a mess. After I got done I wanted to tell Odd I was leaving but when I got to my room he disappeared. I also haven’t seen Terity at all this morning either so I began to worry on what their doing, probably terrorizing the village with their weirdness.
Soon as I went down the hill to the village I see Terity standing on one of the market buildings. I began to frown and started to the building getting ready to tell her to get off but when she saw me she hushed a finger infront of her mouth to keep me quiet. I wondered why until I saw near the road to the city I see some I.P.L. talking to Tayler’s dad who seems to be pleading to them. I wanted to spy and over hear what they’re saying but when I got near them a kid grabs me and takes me with him as two other kids grab my feat and take me in a cloths shop and we walk in it thinking people would see us but it was empty. They took me in the back and closed the door. I look around swinging my arms for them to let go to see what’s going on. Almost all the kids in the village are here again.
“Hmph, would you stop kidnapping me!” I yelled
“Sorry, but we didn’t have time to explain.” I look around the room hoping to see Tayler but he was nowhere in sight.
“What are they going to do to him?” said some girl.
“What’s going on?” I blurted out.
“When Tayler went to spy on the I.P.L., they spotted him and captured him. They said that their not going to release him and will keep him a prisoner for good.” says one of the tall kids. I remember Tayler saying that wanted to talk to me but I guess that doesn’t matter now.
Then after about 10 minutes of talking everyone left but I was left alone in the back room full of boxes. They took Tayler and now we wont be able to see him again. I guess misery has its benefits against us. When I walked out of the cloths shop everyone was outside rushing and looking up. When I looked up I saw three hovering airships the side of ten house lengths. Then way up above the clouds but close enough for us to see is a giant silver-bronze flying ship which has, appears to be, guns attached to the side. The three airships fly to the city where they hover above it has noises of machines and other anonymous noises go off as I find myself in a panic state, I looked on the same building Terity was on but she was gone. I find everyone was panicking as well as they were running as the I.P.L. drove in and started to surround the village, I was thinking is this the end of us, or something else. Then the ground started to rupture and earthquakes were going off and I started toward Aunt Callas house which is completely on the other side of the village, she lives in a house with flowers everywhere. When I arrived I checked and called for them inside, they were gone.
When I looked around with my heart racing I started to think, where could they be, my only other option, home. When I rushed back to the village I see people on the road walking in one direction. Then I see the I.P.L. pointing guns at them telling them to march in one direction, when I tried to walk to the house a soldier stoped me and told me to get into the crowd. He shoved me and pushed me with the rest of the village.
As I was scared, like the rest of the village, the round shook again, this time, very violently. The houses on the right began to shake violently and then crumbled as a giant hole was opening to the right of us. Then the I.P.L. told us to run for it. At first I didn’t hear them, I just saw the hole and I decided to run for myself. Then out of the open, a hand grabs my arm and pulls me towards them, there I saw my mother carrying my sister along with Aunt Calla who looks really red, she does look sick. Then behind them I recognized in an instant was Terity in a boys outfit, I only recognized her cause of her multicolored eyes, along with odd hiding his face with a cloth tied around him. It was a relief to see them unharmed but then again the ground beneath us was shaking like it was gonna explode. When the crowd separated a bit when we left the streets from the village, I see where we were going to. The city.
