Heh, that's an interesting culture thing. Where I'm from, we only use the phrase "how are you?" when we're genuinely interested in how the other is, and never as a greeting. So whenever I meet with people from abroad, and get greeted like "How are you?", I always confuse them by answering with a simple and brief "Hello!" before getting on with the conversation.
