Ceres was projecting his consciousness from his brain jar around Othello. He did this when he had breaks or lunches, as he didn’t eat. He found himself inside a martial arts studio, and watched a lion-man practicing with a two handed sword. There were other students practicing hand to hand or weapons a well. The lion-man turned and squinted at Ceres. Uh oh! He was spotted.
Curious as to the how, Ceres approached the man.
“Hello? How is it you see me?” asked Ceres.
“I see your outline. Something to do with my eyes,” said the lion,” I’m Gend, what do you want?”
He asked.
“I’m Dr. Ceres, head of the paranormal department of Seed Sower. I mean no harm. I explore the city when I have free time,” said Ceres.
“Are you just here to watch?” asked Gend.
“I was just passing through,” said Ceres,”I Did not mean to disturb you,”
“It’s fine. You might learn something,” said Gend. The students heard the voice, but didn’t see Ceres at all.
“Keep at it, guys. Just because we have a visitor doesn’t change anything. Keep working,” said Gend.
Gend bowed, and Ceres copied him awkwardly. Gend continued to train, and Ceres eventually left. He pondered exercises himself. Could he increase his psychic power? Lift heavier and heavier objects? Extend the range of his ESP? He wasn’t sure. He went home, which wasn’t much of a home. Although he had a lot of money, there were not a lot of comforts he could enjoy, with the exception of music.
It had been a long day. Although the parabellum, the strange organ that kept Ceres’ brain functioning, gave Ceres the ability to live, it caused him horrible nightmares. This time he didn’t dream of such things. Only an open field, and various talking animals. It was a bit odd, but not bad. When he awoke, there was silence in his apartment, and peace in his heart for the first time in a long time.
