It started with him letting her in on a secret. Then there were more company secrets. Then slowly she was retaining more and more about robotics. After spending months with him she was confidently inserting her own pieces of knowledge, and her opinions had been a given from the start.
This was the secret, if she tried hard enough she wouldn't see the AIs as the cuddly things they were. The illusion could be broken with enough applied sense. "Just block the thought from your mind. Don't register it." He coaches. She thinks about it. Sonny being bolts and wires and hard plastic, everything but the lovable chocolate dog covered in soft curls.
She recoils her hand immediately. The look of both shock and disgust is quickly replaced with an unsure huff of laugher. One hand is rubbing over the other as she declares that it 'felt weird'. "I was expecting cool smooth metal. What was that?"
"A mixture of microfiber cloth and silicone, threaded into fine wire netting."
She swears. "That. Was. Odd." He laughs whole heartedly. "Is that what you feel every time you pet Sonny?"
"No. I don't focus on the exo-layer of skin." 'Houdini', (the nickname he received a handful of optical illusions prior to this one) admits that he is just as easily fooled.
Mísol finds it both perplexing and intriguing that everyone's brain easily accepts the façade, not seeing the underneath they knew was there.
