For a split second, the thoughts of "what-if" flooded my mind. What if I had said yes to Adam Wilders? What if I today was the day I was searching for a way to get to the top floor? Would I have joined them in that elevator? Walking down some fancy looking hallway that leads to a classroom that had the appearance of a lounge.
Only six Verses out of the entire school would only be allowed to enter. Their teacher would probably this tall Unk looking man would congratulate them on being the best before stumbling into a speech about how much it means to The Last. Would Adam Wilders be watching them through the several hidden cameras? He is, after all, the director.
"Yo yo Ninety Motherfucking One!" Jund suddenly wraps his long around my neck, either to greet me or try to break off my neck in a sadistic humor.
"Jund!" I croak and he took back his arm, allowing me to stumble away from him.
I noticed that Jund had dyed his hair back to a natural black. His eyes colored that Altherian fire radiated as he glared down at me. He was dressed in rough, dirty looking clothes that had a smell of sunflowers. Quite the unexpected scent coming from an Altherian but I became used to it after the first day we met.
A hat sat on his head and his piercings around his ears, lips, and eyebrow shimmered under the limelight. His height didn't make him appear any better. In fact, it made it eleven times worse. The first word that comes to you when you look at Jund is scary.
"Aint this great Ninety-One?" He shoved his hands into his green and black flannel pockets. "The old Wonderland crew back at it again except inside The Last! Don’t worry Ninety-One, I won’t start a fire this time!"
"Fires." I corrected. Jund had started multiple fires on the first day of The Center. I remember it like it was yesterday.
Clouds of smoke filled the buildings, Verses screamed as they exited out of their classrooms, the Faculty had notified the Ambers to come put out the fires and Jund was laughing as we darted down the hallway, trying to hide from the authority. This is how I met Jund, well somewhat. I laughed just thinking about it.
"Yo Ninety-One, I'll see you later okay! Mad and Alice are already upstairs waiting for you. Seems you're in the same Section!" He tapped me on the back before vanishing into the crowd but I could still hear his voice shouting something about Marilyn, stop? Don’t run from me? Whatever. As long as he isn’t getting into trouble, I suppose he can bother people!
I glanced back at the elevator, the one that Pernal entered into, before heading to the one designated on the map. I made my way into the elevator with a few other Diamond Class.
The elevator stopped and we walked through those steel doors and into the hallway that was numbered starting from 330. I searched down the hall until I found 352 and strolled into the class filled with 18 other Verses, plus Alice and Mad who I found relaxing in the back of the class. Alice smiled with that tiresome smile and Mad high-fived me.
“What is up my homies?” I sat down in the seat in front of Mad.
“Nothing much. We were just watching all the Verses come in and out and find their classes. It’s pretty different from The Center.” Mad answered.
Suddenly Alice’s head wobbled before crashing face first onto the wooden desk. We both looked over at her and tried not to laugh.
“I’m sorry did I say we? I meant me.” Mad corrected himself and I let out a laugh.
“Poor main character.” I mocked, “She’s not even up to play her role!”
It’s a running gag in our group that Alice, who is pretty, outshines everyone in anything, is the main character in some story. Everything we do normally revolves around Alice but we don’t mind.
