Karl
I quickly turn around to see Sarah being pulled from the girls tent, kicking and screaming, by some tall guy. He's got blonde-ish hair that's so dirty and messy it looks brown, and a freakishly long skinny nose. His beady red eyes scare the Hell out of me as he stares me down, Sarah squirming in his arms.
Jasper is on his feet standing beside me in a second, I notice his hands are balled into fists and he stares down the vampire with more anger I thought his little body could hold.
Before either of us can say anything a second vampire shows up and I turn my attention to him. He's bigger and scarier than the one who caught Sarah. His black hair is slicked back to reveal a widow's peak and he's smiling wide enough to show off his bright white fangs.
The vampire holding Sarah breaks the silence as he takes a deep breath, smelling Sarah's hair. "Mmmm, I think I see why you want her so bad, sir. She smells delicious," he says and Sarah squirms around again, trying to call for help but his hand his over her mouth.
I feel anger heat up in my chest, I don't care how annoying she is, nobody is allowed to hurt Sarah!
"Patient, Sibalt," the scary vampire says in a deep, soothing voice, "we'll kill her once we've taken care of her friends, first. Veronica's already taken care of the big one, and I heard the green haired girl went after him, so we can handle these two."
I see something shift in the forest, out of the corner of my eye. There's been no animals since the vampires showed up so it must be another vampire... unless...
I tisk loudly, drawing everyone's attention back to me, "that's what you think!" I pull out the kitchen knife I had swiped from my house before leaving this morning from a side pocket on my pants, "I think you're underestimating us."
The scary vampire laughs, "nice toy, kid." He crosses his arms as I get into a crouch, knife in hand.
"Karl..." Jasper whins beside me.
"Got any better ideas?" I hiss, not taking my eyes off the vampire in front of me, "you get Sarah and I'll try to distract them. I'm sure Em and Colt will be back any second now..." worry crept into my voice for the last part, but I ignore it. "Besides," I smile with half my mouth, "Mollie's already here."
I dash forward, towards the scary vampire, swinging my knife in the air to hit his face but I miss; no I didn't miss. He was there one second and gone the next. I stop quickly and spin around. He was standing behind me now, arms still crossed, as if he hadn't moved at all and I'd just run straight past him.
I charge again, aiming my knife to slice his throat, but he jumps out of the way at the last second. I’m starting to get angry, every attack I make is avoided by the slightest shift in his movement.
Behind me I hear Jasper get slammed to the ground with a loud cry and it occurs to me: we might not win. I charge at the vampire again, grunting with effort as I aim to plunge the knife into his chest. He catches my wrist before I can even touch his shirt.
"You just don't give up, do you?" he sneered, and twists my wrist, making me drop the knife. He bends my arm the wrong way, forcing me drop to my knees. He continues bending my arm further and I let out a shout of pain.
"God--fuck--" I stammer, the pain only increasing as he forces me forward, bending my arm further than it should go. Then I hear a loud crack and all I can think is: "That sounded important" before pain makes it too hard to think. I can't help but scream out in pain as I assume he dislocated my shoulder.
He suddenly slumps to the ground with a soft thud. I spin around, clutching my shoulder, to see Mollie slamming a small log into the vampire's head over and over. Neither her or the log make any sound as she turns his skull to mush. Red mist gushes from the wounds she opens in his skull. I guess vampires don't bleed…?
"Mo...llie?" I say my throat raw from screaming, pain makes my eyes blurry and my cheeks wet as I watch her slam a log into the long-dead vampire's body. "Y--you can stop now," I smile a little and she finally looks up at me.
"Are you okay?" she asks in a silent voice, a bit of red mist sticking to her cheeks as she looks at me with wide eyes.
"Probably not," I admit and laugh a little but that hurts so I stop. She gets up and walks over to me, worry plastered on her face as the looks me up and down.
We're interrupted by a hiss mixed with a screech from a vampire and I turn my head around quickly. I almost don't believe my eyes; Jasper, still sat on the ground, had taken a smoldering log from the fire and landed it in the other vampire's face! The vampire hissed and released Sarah, wiping ash from his eyes.
"Nice hit!" I cheer and the vampire glares at me, I instantly regret drawing attention to myself.
Jasper hurls a large rock at his head while he's distracted and the vampire hisses again, stumbling backwards. He holds a hand to the cut on his head, red mist seeps out from between his fingers.
"That's weird..." Mollie mutters beside me, squinting and leaning forward to get a good look. I look at her sideways, hadn't she noticed it when she killed the other vampire?
Emerald and Colt remerge from the forest, both unhurt and the vampire, realizing he's out numbered, runs off into the woods.
"Quick guys! Let's get 'em!" I stagger to my feet but the movement sends a throbbing pain through my arm and I fall back to my knees.
"No," Emerald says calmly, walking further into the clearing, "we should let him go, we need to keep moving, it's not safe here."
"No kidding," Jasper mutters as Colt helps him back to his feet. "Are you hurt?" he asks Colt in a soft, worried voice.
"Fit as a fiddle," Colt swore, it was obviously a lie but Jasper didn't seem to notice.
"Wh--what the Hell just happened?" Sarah demands, her voice almost shaking as much as the rest of her.
"We were just attacked by vampires who were hunting you," Mollie explains in her silent voice, clearly annoyed.
"What happened, Eme?" Sarah ignores Mollie, turning to the leader instead.
"We got attacked by some vampires," Emerald explains, looking a bit uncomfortable by the younger girl clinging to her arm, "they were drawn to us by the smell of your blood."
"My blood? That's weird, I thought vampires didn't like the scent of magical person's blood..."
"They don't." Mollie said flatly, but still wasn’t heard.
"Yeah... super weird..." Emerald mutters, too tired to deal with Sarah's dilutions. "Anyway, we need to break camp."
