When I met her, it was quite unexpected. Very... Anti-climatic. She was heading to the bathroom during second period. Her parted hair kept falling in front of her face and she continued to swish it back in place. Her eyes were trained on the floor and only looked up to notice my existence in the narrow hallway before looking back down to the floor.
I had seen her a few times before. She walked quickly in the halls, as so not to be late to class, and slowly on the stairs as if not to trip. It was strange. It was normal. She wasn't the nerd of the school though one could consider her just that. She was an average student just trying to get by and move on with her life.
She had a few friends that surrounded her but I noticed in time there was really only two she truly talked to. Perhaps she prefered smaller groups. I could understand that. Little drama, close bonds, nothing like the other girls that are friends with like fifty other people. Maybe she has more friends outside of school. I wonder what she does outside of school too. Does she read? Play games? Charity? Maybe even a sport.
Her whole life was intriguing to me. Why it was intriguing was intriguing. The way she walked, as if scared, made me wonder of her past or perhaps I'm misinterpreting things. Perhaps she's just shy or doesn't want to run into any of the freshmen that are bouncing off the walls like squirrels that just had coffee.
She spoke quietly and not very often but her words were always filled with intelligence when she did. It was clear she thought a lot about what to say before ever opening her mouth. Very smart, indeed.
The way she wore her clothes were quite different from the rest of the school. Her clothes were usually a couple sizes too big but she didn't seem to mind. In fact, the day I met her she had baggy like shorts, her shoelaces were loose and ready to become untied, and her jacket was baggy as well. Her clothes hid her figure for sure.
How do I know? Because that same weekend I saw her at the mall with a v-neck coca-cola t-shirt and short shorts. She had a nice figure though she wasn't stick skinny. She definitely had meat on her bones but still managed to be slim. A perfect, average balance.
Back to when I met her. It was average but wonderful at the same time. Taking a leap of faith I had stopped her in the hallway. I only stopped her to ask a question about what class she was in only to realize she was a grade below me and we shared no classes. She was curt in her answer and was quick to walk away.
At first I thought I screwed up but before I could kick myself for my stupidity I noticed the smile on her face. It was small, just like her. Almost unseen by the human eye, just like her. But it created a wonderful ripple of events afterward that was unexpected and beautiful, just like her.
