"I love you! Why can't you see that all these years I love you! I've always been there for you! Always! Instead your friend zone me! How did you not see it?!"
"I saw it," she placed a gentle hand in his cheek but then as if realizing what she had done, winced, and removed her hand.
"Then why didn't you say anything? Why are you with him?!" The venom in his voice was clear and she scrunched her nose in distaste.
"Because I friend zoned you on purpose! I gave you hints throughout the years hoping that you'd get the hint," he stepped back in shock but she continued on, "But no! You just couldn't move on! What happened with Patricia?! Huh?! When I heard you two were together I was so happy! You had finally moved on and I didn't feel like I was hurting you anymore!" Her chest heaved as the words spilled out. Her voice echoed throughout the empty house.
"I didn't love her. I love you," his voice became almost desperate and he tried to reach for her but she slapped his hand away and continued to rant as if she never heard him.
"What went so wrong between the two of you? You guys were so happy. What did you do?! Yell my name out during sex or something?!" She threw her hands in the hair. She wasn't even sure how to get her point across to him.
"What?!" His face flushed crimson red. "No! Like I said I love you!"
"Well I don't love you!"
"Why are you even with him?! He ignores you at school! Never holds your hand! Can't you see he's ashamed to be with you! He's using you! He won't even look at you this entire week!"
"For your information," her voice dropped to a deadly low tone, "He never once ignored me. He's shy and unsure about our relationship and he likes baby steps which is fine by me. He's never once been ashamed to be with me and it's not like we can hold hands to begin with if we have a bunch of books to be carrying around!" Huffing she continued on, her voice steady and even when she spoke, "Just to let you know we've gone out on dates, we've been over at each other's houses for homework or a movie. We still go every weekend to the ice cream parlor for ice cream and never once has he had to cancel and I sure ain't canceling!"
He said nothing as she caught her breath. He was frozen in shock by what she was saying.
"He never plans our dates for us. I never have either. We've always planned them together to make sure both of us have our fun. He always makes sure that we both can make it to the ice cream parlor. Whether it's Friday night, Saturday, or Sunday, he always makes sure we can meet up. And he hasn't even looked at me this week because I said something I never should have said. In all honesty, I don't blame him. Heck, even I don't want to look at myself in the mirror. But I refuse to cry. I get up every morning and I let him know I won't make it hard for him by breaking down and begging for him back. I'll give him time to think about what's going on between us. And this weekend, on Saturday, exactly at two o'clock in the afternoon, I'll go to his house and I'm going to have something special just for him. He's never done surprises with me because he's too afraid I'll hate it but force a smile for his sake and," tears began to fall down her face at the thought of her boyfriend but she continued on, "he's always wanted it to be perfect for me. I've given all week and he may need longer but that's okay because I'm going to let him know I'll wait for his forgiveness. If he decides that this won't work anymore then that's okay and I'll move on but until then I'll wait. I'll wait and show him that he's special to me and that I love him very much even if he has tattoos and like to ride motorcycles for fun. And though I'm terrified of them, I get on them anyway because I trust him to keep my safe. That's my kind of love and a love you'll never be able to give me. So if you don't mind I need to find that special something for him because I'll be knocking on his doorstep at two o'clock and if it ain't perfect then I'll just have to find the next best thing until I can get him something perfect."
Wiping the tears from her eyes, she stood tall and walked away. Her footsteps thundered up the stairs and her bedroom door slammed closed. Defeated, he let himself out the door.
