Markus had gone through the longest morning ever. He was first greeted by Leo with a sob and a hug then the worst scolding of he’s ever received. Next, the ringmaster scolded him, telling how much money he would lose and the number of private parties they would be missing.
“You’re our shining star Markus.” He said, pacing back and forth. “Without you, the circus practically nothing.” He stopped and looked down at Markus, “You won’t be performing for quite some time so you best get to your room and rest, I need you at your best.” So for the rest of the day Markus stayed in his room. Sam brought in a few of his snakes so he wouldn’t be alone.
“Markus!” Racheal hissed, wrapping around his waist, “How could you do something like that! Leaving us.” Markus rolled his eyes.
“I was gonna come back. Just after I found my parents and got some answers.”
“For all you know Markus, they could be dead.” Robert chimed, slithering from beneath the blankets. “I hear the winters hear are pretty harsh.” Markus sighed, rubbing their heads.
“They are harsh. But that doesn’t explain why my parents left me, I want to know why and if it was for a good reason.”
“Aren’t Sam and Leo your real parents?” Racheal asked.
“Two men can’t have a baby Racheal.” Robert stated, “If men could have children then this world would be really over populated.” Markus giggled. There was a knock at the door.
“Markus?” Leo asked, “May I come in?”
“Yeah.” Markus said. Robert and Racheal retreated under the blankets. Leo walked in and silently closed the door behind him. He sat on the bed.
“How you feelin’ cutie?” he asked, playing with Markus’s hair.
“I’m fine Leo, just tired.” He sunk into his pillow. Leo held Markus’s hand.
“I’m sorry we never told you about your parents. We were gonna tell you sooner but we worried you wouldn’t understand.”
Markus nodded and squeezed Leo’s hand. “I probably would’ve been better off if I didn’t know anything, none of this would’ve happened if I had just waited for you.”
“Oh Markus,” Leo sighed. “For someone as young as you you’re such an adult.” Markus smiled and kissed Leo’s hand.
“Were my parent’s good people?” He questioned. Leo shrugged.
“They seemed like nice people. I only ever met them once cutie and in that time I learned very little.” Markus nodded and slumped down into his pillow more.
“Markus” Leo started, “Do you still want to find your parents?” Markus nodded and sat up.
“I just wanna find them and maybe stay with them for a bit. I just want answers.” Leo nodded and kissed his forehead.
“Once you rest up and get healed all three of us will start looking for them.” He got up and left his room. Markus sighed and slid under his covers, Rachael and Robert curling around his arms as he fell asleep.
