Time traveling has been my obsession and at one point, it became my mission. So I worked hard to make it come true. Some people and even some other scientists mocked me, saying that I was too childish, that time traveling was a myth. Little did they know, that my research had shown some progress.
At one moment, my lab had successfully able to send an inanimate object through time. Only a few minutes to the future, but still, that's a huge progress for mankind!
But, from the day we decided to improve the research so the machine could send humans, problems started to occur. Some machine parts were broken, and we had to re-create it all over again. And the worst one happened not long ago. Some of my best scientists fell sick. After about a month, they died because of similar sickness. So I needed to find new scientists again and trained them about the project from scratch, all over again. That was tough.
All those problems happened so fast and in a short period of time, even one of my scientist commented, "maybe time traveling was actually prohibited by God. We weren't permitted to travel through time".
So I told him, "if time travel was forbidden, we shouldn't be able to transfer inanimate object through time a few months ago in the first place".
Then in the next few years, our hard work finally paid. The time machine had successfully built!
Now, it's time to test it. We will send someone through time using this machine. Don't ask who. It was my obsession and my mission in the first place, and after all those problems we've been through, I should be the first person ever to travel through time.
My team set up the machine and everything, while I sat in it. Waiting for it to jump to 10 years in the future.
That was the moment I've been waiting in my whole life. The machine started beeping and shaking. And then a bright light flashed. Blinded me.
When the light faded, I looked around to figure out where I was. I was in an abandoned building. Well, this time machine only able to shift time, not space, so this place should be my temporal research facility. It seemed abandoned, so I was guessing my team had moved to another building. For a bigger development research, I guess.
Waste no time, I opened the machine's cap and jumped out of it.
When I looked forward, I saw an old man. Standing not far from me.
I was just about to ask him a question, when he suddenly lifted his arms, pointed a gun at me, and shot me in the chest.
"What the hell?! What's your problem?? Who are you??" I yelled at the old man after I fell to the ground, with blood on my clothes.
He walked towards me. "I'm a time traveler. Same as you", he said. "Why??" I asked him again. "Because what you'll do in the time jump you suppose to make after this one, will result in the worst paradox impact this world had ever seen. The armageddon paradox", he replied, kneeling before me as he said it. "The impact takes 30 years to result. But you're the one who caused it. So I was sent back this far to clean the mess right from the very source".
"For the sake of everyone you love in the future", he added.
"You kill me for the sake of everyone I love? What's that mean?", I asked him while holding my wounds. "Who are you?!"
"You know me", he replied, and he opened his jacket, revealing a name tag on his shirt with my name on it. Wait. My name?
I stared deeply at the old man's face as my consciousness faded. And almost at the same time as I saw blood started dripping from his chest too, I saw the old man glitch.
