"Ooooh, lemon dearest~"
You have got to be kidding me. It was 8:30 AM on a Monday morning, I'd woken up late, missed my chance at coffee, and hadn't been able to even brush my hair or really do anything besides throw on some random clothes and grab my bag. Yet he was here to ruin my day even further. I turned around looking up at Carter's stupid face, I've learned by now that ignoring him will only encourage him to pester me more, and I'd hate to draw out the process.
"Hello Carter, how are you doing this absolutely wonderful morning?" My voice was dripping with sarcasm, but of course, as usual, he pretended he didn't hear it, and instead gave me a quick once-over.
"Well obviously better than you. Have you even looked into a mirror today? You look awful, even more so than usual, no offense of course."
That was kind of hypocritical considering he didn't look all that put together either. He was wearing an old bright yellow sweater and some jeans which were riddled with holes, his converse looked like they had seen better days. There were heavy bags under his eyes as well and he was way paler than usual. The only thing that looked okay was his hair, but it would probably still look amazing after he walked through a hurricane, so go figure. Still, it probably wouldn't be wise to comment on Carter's ragged appearance unless I wanted to piss him off, so I didn't point it out.
"As a matter of fact I haven't looked into a mirror today, I was in too much of a rush. Then again, I can't bring myself to care."
"You should care, after all, what will people think when they see you? You look like you haven't seen a shower in days! I'm embarrassed to even be standing next to you right now."
"Then leave" I suggested.
"Oh, but where's the fun in that?"
Our bickering went on throughout the school day, only stopping when we had different classes. How we learned anything in the classes we shared was beyond me. By the end of the day, I was in an even worse mood than I was in the morning, and my last class was shared with the one and only Carter. What made it even better? It was gym.
Gym is not exactly my favorite class, I'm decent in other classes like English and social studies, but I suck at gym. Coincidently, it's Carter's best class, possibly the only one besides math he's passing with OK grades. Today we're playing handball, it's like football but once someone throws you the ball you can't move and have to throw it to another team member. No one really follows the 'no moving' rule, but I don't think the gym teachers really care, I'm also pretty sure that the teachers really aren't that fond of me.
"LEMON AND CARTER, YOU TWO WILL BE CAPTAINS! AND LOCKE I DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOU COMPLAINING!" Coach Smyte bellowed.
Ugh.
Well, this is just wonderful, I'm going to get actually slaughtered.
Carter looks pretty smug as we pick our teams. it's obvious he knows he's already won. He does everything in his power to pick the best players going so far as begging coach, and in the end, I end up with only two guys who were even remotely athletic. This was going to be a massacre, I could see it now.
"ALRIGHT TEAMS INTO POSITIONS! THE MATCH WILL BEGIN ON MY COUNT!"
My team gets into a somewhat acceptable formation like he said, none of us expect to win, but we at least have to look like we're participating if we want a grade for the day.
"1........2........3!!"
Coach blows his stupid whistle, and of course in true cliché fashion, this is where the trouble began.
