"You know, you're not supposed to be ditching. I mean you're in The Last. Ditching school is something done at The Center. Have some pride at least." They spoke and I gulped.
I started to panic. Oh god, they're going to say something! Of course, they're going to say something! They're part of the Ace class! Why wouldn’t they say anything? I'd say something if I was that high up too!
"Is probably what you thought I was going to say, huh?" Their face let up and they let out a laugh. I stumbled out a hesitant laugh of relief.
"Haha nope!" They pushed themselves through the bushes. They slammed their back against the wall beside me and slid down, setting their bottom on the ground. They beamed this bright smile and looked over at me.
"Um, what the fuck was that!?" I slurred, trying to get my words out fast enough.
"I was messing with you." They laughed.
"That wasn’t funny! You really scared me!" I slapped their arm.
"Ow! So violent." They rubbed the area but still continued to laugh.
"Well yeah! How else did you think I'd respond?! With kindness and joy? God!" I laid my head back on the wall and sighed.
"Hmmm..." They shifted their eyes towards the roses, "I actually didn't know how the Queen of Terror would respond. I was waiting for like the dead to rise- something extraordinaire but a smack on the arm was something I didn't expect!"
"Queen of Terror? What’s with that cliche name?" I questioned.
"Oh, that’s what everyone calls you because you fought Thunderbird on the first day and apparently he's mad strong. He’s from The Center- X.”
“Ha! Mad strong huh? I remember breaking some of his ribs! He isn’t that strong.” I scoffed, feeling my blood boil just at the mention of his name. He really gets underneath my skin with his whole, I’m far superior, attitude.
“So what is your name?” They asked.
“You can call me Ninety-One, Maybe.” I stopped and my hand slapped my lips. Shit! They weren’t supposed to know that I knew who they are! Or were they?
They grinned, “You know who I am?”
“Of course I do! Everyone knows who you are instantly. You’re the talk of the class Jacks and under,” I explained, “I mean yeah you’re also a Pernal in an Ace class but talking to you now you appear to be ordinary. Perhaps a little strange though but who isn’t?”
Their face lite up in awe and their eyes glittered. “Ordinary…” They hung on the word. I thought I had insulted them and so I started stuttering my words,
“No, please wait, what I mean is, that you’re uh-”
“So are you, Ninety-One! You too are ordinary.” They commented and I laughed.
“Why did you come down here anyway?” I finally asked.
“I saw you ditching and wanted to know what you were like!” They admitted.
“That’s it?” I waited for a more decent explanation.
“That’s it!” They bobbed their head.
“You could’ve just came over to the Diamond class anytime and saw what I was like!” I shouted.
“I know. But it wouldn’t have been as fun!”
"Me Sola Raytee!" I accidentally whispered in my native tongue.
"Maybe!" We both heard the voice of a male shout. "Where are they?"
"I don’t know. I saw them come this way but I can’t find them!" A female replied.
"Aren't those your friends?" I questioned.
"Sshhh." They placed their finger on their lips. "I don’t want them to know I’m here!"
They grabbed my head, ducking it down as they did theirs. I heard the heavy footsteps of two Verses run past the bushes and Maybe snickered as they did. When they were out of our hearing, Maybe let me go.
"Alright, I'll see you later! Take care okay?" Maybe jumped up and brushed passed the bushes. I could hear them run the other way and I stifled a laugh.
They really are weird. Kind. But weird.
