Because he fucking hates to loose. xD" And he has seen though that Yao is too soft-hearted to let him die. In case Yao saves him, than it would mean that Ivan hasn't lost at all because in Russian Roulett, the one who dies in the end after the bullet has been shot out is the looser, so not him.
If he hasn't lost than it would mean that he doesn't need to keep his promise as well.
Yeah... he's a bad guy from the very beginning. xD"
