Sometimes, in call centers when the call volume is very very low, they will let some employees take the rest of their shift off instead of paying all those people to do nothing. Most call centers I've been to will call it voluntary time off, or VTO for short.
Employees that have more then one skill set (those who can take more than one type of call, in more than one language) have a harder time getting that time off...or any extra time off because they can do the job of two or three people.
As the call center gets emptier and emptier, Wikipedia becomes your only friend...
It might not be a surprise, but my day job is in a call center in the call center capital of Canada.
