Important note:
I see a lot of people taking the concepts associated with the god's names for granted (ex. the name “Death” with the idea of “death” as something obvious), and that's a major error to understanding AMOLAD. We know the meaning of their names because we are taught the definitions of the words, and thus we have “human concepts” of what their names represent. The Gods don't have that - in the beginning, their names weren't associated with ideas and concepts. To them, the God's names are just that, NAMES, not concepts. Until a god's name is associated with their jobs and image, their names don't automatically come with concepts.
So no, no one has an IQ of a child here in the comic.
I see what you mean - It's just a word to them. Like my friend's name - Sylvia. It's just a name, without obvious meaning. If you dig a little deeper, it turns out Sylvia means forest. On the surface, it is her name. Nothing more, nothing less. But it does have a meaning, just one they don't know. In fact, maybe instead of them (Life. Death, Love, Wisdom, Madness, etc.) being named after a thing, maybe that thing was named after them. When Death came, a certain event happened. Therefore, that event was associated so closely with Death that they named it after him. In that case, it wouldn't even be possible for the connection to be seen straight away.

Read Right to Left, Downwards.
Death's job isn't really his favorite, but it's not like he could change it. It doesn't help that he's attracted to his opposite who seems to detest his very existence.
This comic contains rather dark themes later on that might be uncomfortable for readers, viewer discretion is advised.
Oh, and sexual content too.
Updates Friday (usually), but whenever I have free time is the main principle.
