When the period ended Nelly packed his books and walked out of the class surrounded by his new friends. Mary and Grace came to wait by my table as I stared out the door after my brother.
"Not used to being separated?" Mary asked, bringing me out of my thoughts.
"We were only separated once before." I said quickly packing my books into my bag. I forgot to put my pen away so I just carried it in my hand.
"You have such a cool pen." Grace said as we walked to our lockers. Our lockers were only three away from each other's, another 'coincidence' I'm sure.
"Thanks. I just thought it looked cool the last time I went overseas so I bought it." The pen we were talking about was striped blue and green pen with sheep draw around it. It had a sheep shaped cap to match.
Just as I was about to get to my locker, Mary and Grace having already reached theirs, I bumped into my second person of the day. This made me drop my sheep pen on the ground separating it from the cap.
"Whoa dude, watch it." I had bumped into the 'middle' popular group of the school, not low in rank enough to be considered unpopular but not high enough to unpopular. One of the guys just laughed at me.
"Sorry." The guy I had actually bumped into flashed me a smile as he walked on by. I had been cheating on my homework so I didn't know who he was. After they had left I bent down to pick up my pen. The hallway was mostly empty but I couldn't spot the cap to my favourite pen. I sighed and stood up to place my used books in my locker and the books for my next classes in my book bag.
"Do you know who you just bumped into?" Mary said running up to me after her and Grace had also changed their books.
"No, but I lost my favourite pen's cap." I said showing her the pen. Grace gave me a sad smile.
"Well that was Jake Zale, the leader of the unpopular popular crew. He just apologised to you."
"Can I tell him he lost the cap to my pen?" I said putting my pen in my jacket pocket.
"You really seem to be sad that you lost the cap to a pen. Are you sure you bought it yourself?" Grace said as we made our way to the cafeteria. Mary was hurt that none of us thought that Jake Zale was important.
"Someone gave it to me on my last day there. It has my name specially engraved in to the side." I took out the pen and showed the engraving to them.
"That is so cute." Mary said. We were on our way to a table at the back corner of the room, clearly for the unwanted of the more social groups. I saw Nelly with some girl in his lap as he and the other members of his table laughed at something he said. I looked away and focused on getting to my destination.
When we reached the table there were two other people already sitting there. They introduced themselves as Nathan Washington and Jamie Roan. Nathan and Jamie were pretty cool people. Throughout the whole of lunch Jamie talked about himself and only himself, which took me away from my mission but helped me relax into the situation a bit more.
Jamie was talking about his pet hamster when the bell signalled to us the end of lunch. We all grabbed out trays and headed out of the emptying cafeteria. So many people bumped into me that I also most ended up going to the wrong side of the building, only someone grabbed my arm before that happened.
I didn't see who it was as they had let go of me as soon as I turned around. The people pushing me in the wrong direction were less now but it seemed as if I lost Mary, Grace and Nathan who were all heading to History with me. I managed to make it out of the mess of people but didn't know where I was.
I headed into the nearest bathroom and pulled out my phone. I sent a text message to Nelly telling him that I'm lost and he replied with a message saying that he is on his way. Nelly was one of the few people who knew that I was directionally challenged and it was a surprise that the institution still allowed me to go missions to places without maps.
I stepped out of the bathroom and bumped into some of the middle popular crew members who were bunking class.
"Hello nerd." There were three guys in the hallway with me. One of the guys had about six piercings on one ear; the other two had just one. One of the guys with one piercing had shoulder length hair and the other a man bun.
"Aren't you meant to be in class?" Man bun guy pushed me in to the wall. They all gathered around me. I would have seriously beaten them up if it wasn't against the rules saying that I should never break character. It seemed as if the guys didn't know what to do with me as they all paused for a second before piercing guy got an idea. Luckily for me before he could fully push me into the bathroom Nelly appeared.
"Pick on someone else, geek." Nelly said pushing them away from me.
"Aw are you here to protect your baby brother?" The piercing guy put on a sicken baby voice and Nelly punched him in the face. It all happened so fast that his friends didn't know how to react for a second.
"Anybody else want me to rearrange their face?" Nelly said threateningly. It was rare to Nelly so angry but this was one of those times. The middle popular guys just picked up their friend and left as quickly as they had come.
"I really wish you never got into so much trouble, Lu." Nelly said putting his arm around my shoulders.
"You and me both." He led me back to the class room and the history teacher didn't even bother asking where we were. I pulled out my books and I reached into my pocket to pull out my cap-less pen but I couldn't find it. I searched everywhere and even asked Mary and her friends and sent a note to Nelly, but none of they knew where it was. I had officially lost my favourite pen, cap and all.

When school ended the driver was there to pick us up. Apparently we were the only ones there who were picked up by a driver. Everybody else had their own car or just went to their friend's house to sleep over or something. Mary told me this. She went home with us because there was no tech club after school today and she lived right across the street from us.
Our 'dad' wasn't home when we arrived and Nelly went straight to the kitchen to make us something to eat. Not that I was hungry, I was still trying to figure out what I was going to do without my trusty pen. I had had that pen for the past three years and it had never failed me.
"Are you still sulking about the pen?" Nelly said walking into my room holding a plate full of something. He had been baking last night as we went over our mission briefs and he had brought some of those cookies up for me to eat.
"Not really. I've just had a bad day today." And I was not kidding. I had bumped into to so many people today, each time the situation getting worst. I had gotten lost and to top it all off I lost my favourite pen. So much for trying to enjoy my first day of school.
"You'll be okay. I mean you've pushed thr–" The ringing of the doorbell had cut Nelly off. He gave me an apologetic smile and left me room to go see who it was. Our butler was meant to start working tomorrow, along with the maid. Nelly said no to the chef when the institution offered.
"Nelu, I have a couple of people over so if you need me I will be in the game room." Nelly said sticking his head through the doorway of my room. He disappeared before I could even say anything back to him. I sighed. It looked like my day was just going to get worst from here on out. I really didn't mind Nelly being friends with the popular crew; I just didn't like how it seemed that he was going to start ignoring me, an unpopular kid, just for the sake of the mission. I prayed hard that this mission would end soon.
