Yuna's eyes fluttered open. The first thing her glass eyes had seen were the apple red and golden leaves falling from the trees. Rain poured heavily, it pounded against the roof of the bus. The window wipers swung back and forth, each time they squeaked. That was the only noise on the bus, aside from a few passengers snoring or the bus's engine. Yuna gazed went passed the glass and watched the trees passed by her. Her thumb grazed over the pendent that hung around her neck. A small sigh left her painted lips. Pain stung the back of her head and Yuna closed her eyes for a moment.
Her thumb continued to rub the Aquarian jewel that always gave Yuna comfort. Her eyes opened when the bus came to the stop and Yuna stood up. Grabbing her suitcase, Yuna walked off the bus and stepped onto the sidewalk. She had no umbrella so the poor girl stood there and looked around the unknown area as the rain soaked her pale body. The bus driver gave the girl a pitiful glance before closing the doors and took off. Yuna stood there for a long while the rain started to pour down harder. Another sigh left her lips as Yuna reached into her pockets and dug out a piece of paper. The ink instantly smeared and Yuna had to squint her glass eyes just to make out the writing.
Shaking her head the girl stuffed the paper back into her pocket and she gripped the handle of her suitcase before she started walking. As she entered the village the first thing she had noticed was that the buildings and housing all looked quite old. No one stood or walked outside and there were no lights in the windows. Fog danced around Yuna's legs as she walked slowly. Her glass eyes looked around for the shrine she was supposed to now live in. So far, all she saw were houses and nothing that even came close to what she was looking for.
It got to the point where she was no longer in the village and that Yuna was now walking down a stone path. Her steps stopped in front of a hill of steps. Her gaze went up as she stared at a gate. The message did mention a red gate, her thoughts told her. Closing the handle, Yuna picked up her suitcase and started climbing up the stairs. When she reached the gate she set her suitcase down and glanced around the shrine yard. It was quite big and the shrine house looked eerie among the fog and rain. The paper door opened and a old lady dressed in a kimono looked up and noticed Yuna.
A wrinkly smile formed on the woman's face, "Oh my, are you perhaps my granddaughter? Your father had told me so much about you." Yuna said nothing and only nodded as she started making her way over to the old woman. Her kind blue eyes glanced up and down at Yuna as she got closer. "Oh dear....look at you. You'll get a cold if you stay in those clothes. Come on in my dear and I'll start a bath." Placing a hand to Yuna's back the kind old lady lead her inside.
After giving Yuna a towel and leaving her in the living room, the grandmother went to start her bath. Yuna stared at the small wooden table that sat in front of her. A month ago, her father had died. When no else wanted the foster daughter of a famous scientist her grandmother stepped in to take her in. They knew nothing of each other but still the kind old lady was nice enough to take Yuna in. Yuna's glass eyes narrowed at the thought of her father and her hand gripped her pendent.
Yuna could remember his smile, every time he would look at Yuna, his smile was full of joy and love. Over the years she had been with him, she could always feel his love and warmth, but now that warmth is forever gone. Humans live and die all too quickly.
A sigh left Yuna's lips and her grip on her pendent loosened until her hand dropped entirely. Yuna's glass eyes went to the door way after she had heard footsteps coming down the hall and came to a stop. "That bath is ready my dear," her grandmother said with a sweet smile. Yuna gave her a small nod before standing up. The grandmother's smile widened a bit as she led Yuna to the bathroom. "You can leave your clothes outside, I'll wash and dry them." Yuna stared at the bathroom door before nodding again and opening the door. She closed the door and leaned against it.
The room was warm and humid. Yuna could smell the strong scent of the soaps. A small smile formed on her lips and she started to take off her clothing. Her clothes dropped to the floor and her gaze went to the mirror that hung above the sink. Her reflection was blurry. As always she could not make out what she looked like. Only her eyes were clear. Blinking once she bent down and picked up her clothes. Creaking the door ever so slightly, she dropped her wet clothes onto the floor before closing the door once again.
Yuna turned her back to the door and walked towards the tub. Slowly, she entered and sat down in the warm water. Curling her knees up close to her chest, Yuna let out a shaky breath. Her long lashes came together when the lids of her eyes closed. Her pendent felt warm against her chest.
As her eyes remained closed and the warmth of the water soothed her body, her mind started drifting away. Her mind kept flashing, switching, back and forth from memories of her father and images of strange things that her heart felt she knew. Strange, strange images of people she did not recognize, places she's never been. It was all so strange but then her mind went to her father. She remembered the sun shining behind him as his hand extended out towards her.
Yuna's eyes fluttered open and her glass eyes stared at the rippling water. Even in the water her reflection was unclear and disoriented. Yuna cupped her hands together and dipped her hands into the water, taking some before splashing her face. Yuna leaned back and slowly scooting back until her head was barely above the water. Closing her eyes once again Yuna held her breath and submerged her face beneath the water.
Her mind once again faded away. Inside her mind, she remained beneath the cool water. Her eyes opened as her silver hair floated past her. The strains appeared like seaweed floating along within the sea. Yuna's gaze settled on her pendent that floated along with her hair. The aqua blue jewel in the middle glowed softly. Her hands extended and cupped themselves around her pendent before holding her hands close to her heart. Her body curled up into a ball as she floated around in the water.
The glow from the pendent soon faded away. Yuna's pale lips went from a line to a frown. Her hands moved from each other and to Yuna's surprise her pendent was gone. Her hands quickly went to her neck and she started to feel for the chain but it wasn't there. Her glass eyes went wide and she stared up at the light above her. Her hand reached up to grasp at the light. Slowly her body started to sink and the light became further and further away. Yuna shook her head and opened her mouth, bubbles escaped as she sucked up the water.
Swallowing the salty water Yuna started to cough, gasp. Her body curled and her hand held her neck as her lungs burned. She was drowning!
Yuna's eyes shot open and she quickly sat up. She gasped and coughed. Yuna covered her face with her hands. Her shoulders went up and down quickly as her heart pounded away inside her chest. Slowly her hands dropped and a small sigh left her lips. Yuna stood and grabbed the towel that was left for her. Slowly, Yuna stepped out of the tube and wrapped the towel around her small body. Yuna walked passed the mirror on the wall and towards the door. She opened it to find clothes sitting on the floor, folded nicely. Looking around, she found the hall empty.
Yuna bent down and picked the clothes up. Closing the door once again, the towel around Yuna's body dropped and she got dressed. The kimono fitted her body nicely. Yuna picked up the brush that sat on the counter sink. She brushed her long golden hair and tied it up in a bun before placing the brush back where she had found it.
Walking out of the bathroom, she closed the door behind her, before walking down the long hallway. The rain continued to pour and lightning stuck at every chance it got. To Yuna it always seemed like Thunder and Lighting were doing a dance. Just like the Waves did with the Sea. Yuna stopped to gaze out into the garden. A cherry blossom tree sat in the corner of the garden. The pond played its music as rain drops fell upon it. The moon shone down onto the garden, creating a scenery of peace and beauty.
Yuna's gaze turned ahead of her and she started walking again. Her eyes would glance into the rooms with open doors as she walked by. There was no sign of her grandmother. How strange. "Grandmother," her voiced called out. There was no answer so Yuna continued on with her search.
When she found her grandmother, she was sitting on the floor, gazing out and watching the rain. Yuna came closer before taking a seat next to her grandmother. For a long moment, Yuna watched her grandmother. Her eyes gazed at the wrinkles around the woman's smiling lips and eyes. The bright blue color in her eyes seemed to twinkle as they gazed out. She had her hair over her shoulder, all silver and white. Her wrinkled sat in her folded lap.
Yuna's gaze then went out. She watched the rain along with her grandmother and they sat in silence. "You know....you remind me so much of him," the grandmother finally said. Yuna turned her gaze from outside and to her grandmother before she tilted her head. "You're father," she chuckled, "you have the same presence as his. Always quite and watching, taking in everything you can. I can defiantly tell you are his child."
Her grandmother looked at Yuna and Yuna's eyes widened slightly when she saw the kind smile that sat upon the old woman's lips. Her eyes watched the old lady's hand reach up and cup Yuna's cheek. Her thumb brushed under her eye as she stared at Yuna with love in her eyes. "I do wish he was here with us. I miss him so...." Yuna's gaze turned sad as she looked away. She missed her father as well.
"Now...you must be tired. Come now my child, we have a busy day tomorrow," she said with a chuckle before pulling her hand from Yuna and standing up. Yuna gave the woman a slight nod before standing up as well. They both walked in silence as her grandmother led her to Yuna's new room. "I already placed your bag inside. The bed is ready for you to sleep as well."
Yuna gave the kind woman a small smile before entering her room. It....was quite empty. There was a closet, a bed, a window that lead to a patio, and a desk. Her suitcase sat next to her bed. Yuna turned to her grandmother and bowed, she bowed in return before walking off, down the hall. Yuna closed the door and walked over to the bed before sitting down and laying on her side. A heavy sigh left Yuna's lips and her eyes drew to a close.
