The original plot for Down was to have certain characters represent, in a way, certain key characters from the original stories, with some influence from contemporary renditions of Alice in Wonderland such as the Disney films (1951 and 2010, not the TTLG garbage), The Looking Glass Wars trilogy, and Alice: Madness Returns.
Anyway, our three main characters, Stark, Percey, and Castor, are The Mad Hatter, the March Hare, and the Cheshire Cat. Pretty much all the concept art I have on my computer is Castor/the Cat since he's the only one I ever felt like drawing. I do, however, have some scenes sketched out in my sketchbook that I'll scan and add to here, eventually.
Anyway, the story was that they would be led down to Wonderland by Hector (the Blue Caterpillar), where they would take part in some grand ceremony where they would choose a card from a deck, and within that card is the spirit, essentially, of whatever "role" the person is meant to inhabit. The roles are all, or most, of the original AiW characters. Most of the spirits coexist with their host fairly easily, but the Cat, who hasn't chosen anyone in nearly a century, is one of two who are highly volatile, and actively battle their host for control.
(Ask me any questions you may have about the story, and I'll answer them if I can.)
